QUINCY MUMFORD - THANK YOU

Original Mix, MusicSara NatkinsComment

You really have to hand it to musicians; it’s nearly impossible to fathom how difficult and painstaking it must be to come up with something so innovative that one can create a sound-based brand for their selves that’s identifiable. With so many styles and genrse having been exhausted already, and with trends coming and going so rapidly, it’s pretty hard for us to come across a song that we can defiantly say “THIS is different.” We can only assume that it takes a whole lotta thinking outside the box and a ton of patience.

That’s why when Quincy Mumford’s latest track “Thank You” was brought to our attention, we felt as if we had struck gold. Blending concepts such as old school, mellow hip hop riffs with pop electronic synths with the help of producer Jenaux, the two artists design something beautiful through the most unlikely of combinations. The production is woven together with Quincy’s voice, one that can achieve such a high pitch range that nearly resembles Prince’s very own. For us, “Thank You” is like a breath of fresh air, and we certainly can’t- and won’t- get enough of it.

KHAMSIN - PLASTIC DREAMS (FEAT. KIDSWASTE)

Original Mix, MusicSara NatkinsComment

Even as we start to descend into fall, leave it to two artists who are setting some insanely high standards in music, Khamsin and Kidswaste, to make you feel like you’re only just reaching the apex of summer. The French musicians form an unparalleled chemistry in their brand new collaboration, “Plastic Dreams,” as they put their array of skills on full display.

The single is nothing short of an indie-electronic pop gem, one that will 110% be ingrained in your heads for the next month— or 10. It’s nearly impossible to listen to the song all the way through without simultaneously wearing a cheek-to-cheek grin across your face. Thanks to the track’s undeniably hooking lyrics, written and sung by Kidswaste, and innovative, bouncy and melody-rich production courtesy of Khamsin, we now have a soundtrack to help us get through the day while keeping our moods elevated.

MICKEY KOJAK - ALL THAT ACID

Music, Original MixAlli LindseyComment

Making a bold statement in the land down under, Sydney’s own Mickey Kojak returns boasting the infinite wonders of psychedelics with “All That Acid.” This nu-disco, Aussie riot is saturated with an unforgiving charisma, breathing life into the most unsuspecting elements of music production. Blending indie electronic cadences with dance floor ready bangers, Mickey Kojak is a testament to radical creativity. “All That Acid” is an eccentric joint, defined by a controlled chaos swathed in deviating electric frequencies. Its lawless nature is tempting, awakening the rebel within. More Fear and Loathing than it is Alice in Wonderland, this far out framework of digital proficiency is a trip in and of itself. Crack your spine and trip out with Mickey Kojak- NOW!

[PREMIERE] BLVTH - RIGID

Music, PREMIERESara NatkinsComment

Enticing, fascinating, and handsome to boot, BLVTH returns with a striking framework of thunderous sounds via his latest single, “Rigid.” The German-based babe is relatively new to the professional music scene, yet far from novice. His unique sound is distinguished, sharp, resounding. “Rigid” is a smokestack of polyrhythmic soundscapes. Industrial and chromatic, BLVTH channels the unfamiliar sounds of post apocalyptic techno, later diving into a world of echoing, electro-R&B. Reverberating vocals oscillate moments of controlled chaos, giving rise to a zealous yet chilling energy. Explore this labyrinth of sounds, and watch this space for more from BLVTH.

MOD SUN - BURNING UP

Music, Original MixSara NatkinsComment

Philanthropist, creator, designer, rapper, producer- these are a mere facet of the long list of terms one could call Mod Sun. A household name in dance music, hip hop, and R&B, Mod Sun shows no signs of slowing down. His latest release, “Burning Up,” released via Filthy Fangs is a robust r&b masterpiece. Founded Mod Sun’s girlfriend, former Disney star turned “it girl,” Filthy Fangs is the brain child of the eccentric Bella Thorne. Drawing influence from contemporary hip-hop and fusing it with a unique take on electro-pop this track is nothing short of dynamic. Both flamboyant and poetic, Mod Sun is unapologetically himself in “Burning Up.” The rapper/ producer also just announced his nation-wide fall tour, and you can get your tickets here. Stay tuned for more from Filthy Fangs, and this modern day renaissance man.

URCHN - COMPOSURE

Music, Original MixMike DooseComment

From the first 10 seconds of URCHN’s debut single “Composure” I was instantly hooked. Soft muted guitar plucks that drive with a sense of urgency. A nervous percussive shaker sound. A brief flutter that reminds me of a baby dinosaur. My early impression was that I was listening to something I hadn’t quite heard before, and it only gets better as the song continues. Making his debut via Casablanca Sunset, URCHN is the solo project of the Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and producer Max Greenhalgh. Max is also notably recognized for his work as the front man in the indie pop act Inspired & The Sleep amongst other projects and musical outlets. Cinematic in feel, with thought-provoking lyrics sung in a haunting half-falsetto, URCHN quickly weaves a web of contemplative discomfort on “Composure”. The thoughtful blend of organic and electronic sonic elements, syncopated rhythms, and vocal affectation come together to make this track one of the most compelling debuts of 2018 thus far.
