DJ SET: RED AXES - 1970 PROMO SET

Erin MaherComment

I stumbled across this on soundcloud and thought I would share - so far it's a brilliant set!  Red Axes is a project created by Tel-Aviv based producers and DJs Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi.  The duo has been performing together for over 6 years, first as members of the new wave / post punk band Red Cotton.  After living in Amsterdam and traveling in Europe, the guys returned to Tel-Aviv and began an underground psychedelic electronic party series called "Break It!

Their work in editing masterpieces and live-performing helped them push their boundaries both as DJs and as producers.  In the Tel Aviv night scene they were booked to play alongside Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Pilooski, just to name a few... Playing in Tokyo in summer 2012 was a step further towards transcontinental recognition.

After releasing their debut LP two years ago, French duo Bot’Ox has embarked on a new project consisting of six EPs to be released over the course of one year.  The culmination of releases by Cosmo Vitelli and Julien Briffaz will reveal a single story.  The first piece of the puzzle is an EP entitled Basement Love, consisting of the self-titled single and three dancefloor-worthy remixes. The Basement Love EP will be released on December 10th via I’m A Cliché.

“Basement Love” features vocals by American DJ jOHNNYDANGEROUs, who first teamed up with Bot’Ox for their Perfect Pair EP in 2011. NEW MUSIC: PEARL NECKLACE - DID YOU HEAR IT (FEAT. ARP)

Erin MaherComment

Introducing Brooklyn duo Pearl Necklace. Pearl Necklace is Bryce Hackford and Frank Lyon. Soft Opening is their debut release, and it drops on January 29th via Smalltown Supersound. Like their name, a mischievous double-entendre certain to conjure a sly grin, the music of Pearl Necklace is similarly coded. Nothing is quite what it seems. Hackford & Lyon share a fascination with text - with language, sound, meaning, and with forms of communication. Soft Opening is a subtle but distinct dissemination of all of that, wherein all we think we know is revealed to be, in fact, quite alien.

Building on their predecessors fascination with Sound as Text - from Pierre Henry to early Cabaret Voltaire to Christian Marclay to Matmos - Pearl Necklace define their SoundWorld by an open-minded approach to sampling, using source material of various fidelities - field recordings, Library records, dusted disco cuts, et cetera - and live, primarily synth-based instrumentation, plus definitive use of an MPC1000 sampler.

NEW VIDEO: THE REFLECTIONS - DISCONNECTED

Erin MaherComment

The Reflections take us behind the lens of their music, with a Wonka-styled journey through the subway tunnels for the video for their second single, "Disconnected."  Directed by Ellen Frances (The New Pornographers, Black Marble), the "Disconnected" video premiered last week at Impose Magazine who called it, "riveting to watch and ripe for a head-bobbing zone- out."

Produced by Kenny Woods (Lykke Li, Jenny Lewis, etc), "Disconnected" is a chilled-out gem full of chugging rhythms, intricate piano arrangements and 70s styled guitar riffs, off their forthcoming debut LP, Limerence out in early 2013.

This duo, compromised of Darian Zahedi and Jon Safley, have already been touted by the likes of Spinner, Filter and NME, who declared The Reflections are, "a reminder that a bid of sunkissed US pop-perfection is always good to go down a storm." The Reflections are set to play The Echo in Los Angeles on December 10th and download "Disconnected" above!

NEW MUSIC: EXPLORERS - TICKET HOME

Erin MaherComment

Today I received this track from my soundcloud inbox.  I can't remember exactly why I favored this band, Explorers - but after listening I am glad I did....really really great tracks!  They are from Sheffield, England so they most likely played with a band I know or know bands I know....I don't know...... but I know I really fucking like it!  This track "Ticket Home" comes from their debut EP called Souvenirs which you can pick up from iTunes HERE! (I totally just bought it!)  This is great electro-rock with lots of bright textures and dance floor jams.  Mmmmmmm.... I am so into this!  Download this track for free from the soundcloud player above!

NEW MUSIC: THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - LET IT GO

Erin MaherComment

The Neighbourhood are doing great things!  While in LA - I saw this band many times and though they could do great things if they get lucky - because that's all this business is, getting lucky - and luck is simply perseverance and timing!  Now they are signed to a major label, started playing big festivals, and I even heard them on commercial radio the other day while I was driving!  I like seeing good things happen to great bands!  Here is their new single "Let It Go" and we should be seeing a full length album soon!
