SEPTEMBER 23 // MEZZANINE // SAN FRANCISCO
Nineties sounds refracted through a thoroughly modern aesthetic. Tracks that are serious about moving a dance floor full of people without coming on too strong. Breezy California vibes touched by a twist of European flair and an air of mystery. This is what Le Youth is about.
Wes James is the slightly enigmatic Angeleno behind Le Youth, a producer without a past whose music is steeped in it. His signature sound is a blend of Clinton-era R&B and the house music that was lighting up dancefloors and radio stations around the globe during the same period, and the leisurely grooves, airy synthesizers, and pop hooks of a song like his debut single “C O O L” that can easily pull a listener back to the pre-millennial, pre-Internet days when dance music offered a transcendentally blissful brand of hedonism that’s considerably harder to find on today’s macho-tinged EDM landscape.
Fusing soul and rnb vibes with a love of classic house jams, Pat Lok has become a staple in the playlists of tastemakers worldwide. His releases "You Street" and "Your Lips" and numerous remixes have received critical acclaim, racking up hundreds of thousands of plays and consistently topping Hype Machine. Recently supported by Spotify's New Music Friday and BBC Radio 1, the Vancouver-based producer has been featured by The Fader, Majestic Casual, Victoria's Secret, and in the Magician's Magic Tape series.
Breaking out in 2009 with a string of bootlegs and remixes, Ghosts Of Venice reacted quickly to the levels of online attention with the release of debut "I Learned From The Best" EP free, online. Swiftly snapped up by Strictly Rhythm this was reworked into summer club hit "Without You" featuring the esteemed Errol Reid on vocals and huge mixes from James Talk & Ridney and Siege, not to mention repeated Radio 1 plays from Pete Tong amongst others. The other side of the EP, "Her" was released through US label Solid Bump along with hefty collection of remixes from Bit Funk and more.
