Phantom Planet needed a warm-up show before their 2 reunion shows later this month, so last night they billed themselves as Lithium Blue on the JJAMZ residency line-up, and suprise!! Front man Alex Greenwald let the audience know it has been 4 years since they played together on a stage, and that he was most likely going to forget words, etc. No one cared - we were just all happy to be there! It was a great warm-up set....I can't wait to see the well rehearsed shows next week at The Troubadour!
ART VS SCIENCE @ BFD - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 06.02.12
CommentDay 2 with Art Vs Science - what can I say, I cannot get enough of these Aussie electro rockers! After the show last night, I drove up to Shoreline Amphitheater to see my friends play at the ever so festive BFD Festival - hosted by Aaron Axelsen and the good people over at Live 105.
It was hot, but lucky for us, Art Vs Science played the electronic tent where we could be sheltered from the sun. It was a early set at 1pm, but it still managed to be the largest crowd they have played to in the US thus far. It is so exciting to watch a band grow, and based on the reaction from the crowd, they gained about 2000 new fans in the bay area!
I am not sure I have to go into detail on how AMAZING the show was..... Art Vs Science blow people away every time, no matter what the circumstances! Just check out the video above & you will see what I mean. I spent 1/2 my time on the sidelines down front, and the other 1/2 on stage behind the band watching the crowd bounce and surge to the infectious dance music.... it was a perfect day!
ART VS SCIENCE @ THE ECHO - LOS ANGELES, CA - 06.01.12
CommentI had been waiting 8 long months for Art Vs Science - my favorite Aussie band - to come back to the states, and finally they arrived for their first west coast show and month long US tour. I was just happy to see them kick everything off in Los Angeles!
Last time they were in LA we said goodbye at 4 in the morning at rooftop party in Venice beach, with tears in my eyes and about a gallon of vodka in my system. We had just finished a week long west coast run where I was tour managing the support band - The Hundred Days - and I was all choked up because I did not know when we would be together again! Thankfully, it was sooner than I though - did a few more shows with them in the midwest and Canada 2 short months later which was awesome (mmmmm......Montreal......).
8 months later they are back in LA, fully rested from taking time off and traveling the world, ready to murder any room they play. Murder....is just what they did! I could say they killed it, but murder seems to have a more intense feel.....and Art Vs Science are the masters of intensity. It is really really hard to get people dancing at a show in LA - we all seem to think we are too cool to show any form of enjoyment while watching live music except for the always ambivalent head bob. However, that was not the case last night - The Echo was exploding at the seams with sweaty people dancing like crazy! I for one was losing my mind! They played all their hits like "Magic Fountain" and "Parlez Vous Francais?" - along with my personal favorites "Higher" and "Flippers".
I believe that Art Vs Science is pretty much the best live band touring the world right now. It's not just a show, it's an experience!
