New Video: Sonoio

Electronic alternative rock - I just love the way that sounds. Alessandro Cortini merges these two genres together to make compelling and beautiful music with his one man project called Sonoio. You may know Alessandro from the Nine Inch Nails line-up - he toured with them from 2004 to 2008. I know him as a kind and beautiful man; he is as beautiful as his music. Live shows are totally insane - he does not play out much, but when he does it is comparable to his new video below....he grabs the attention of any crowd and manages to completely blow their minds. We will be seeing great things from continue to come from Sonoio, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Colourmusic

I love bands from Oklahoma! They remind us from time to time that there is other great music coming out of other parts of the states becides the west and east coasts! One of my favorite Oklahoma bands is Colourmusic - whose beautifully gruesome video for the powerful 'You For Leaving Me' left me smiling and more then a little disturbed. Part Polyphonic Spree, part Clinic and part Flaming Lips, Colourmusic are a band who understand the importance of visual aesthetics in modern music. They also understand the importance of underpinning this aesthetic with a powerful and thumping soundtrack that I like very much. And I like their beards!!

New Video: Bikini

Bikini is Nigel Diamond and Olivier Olivier. Their music is like Salinger on MDMA. Diamond is originally from Miami and Olivier was classically trained at the Royal Conservatory.

Olivier Olivier is the son of the late Indian poet Fateh Bains and moved to Canada where he attended Glen-Lyon Norfolk School, a school chosen for its musical program affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music. It was here Olivier met Nigel Diamond, who was sent down after he was expelled from his previous school.

It wasn’t until after Glen-Lyon Norfolk that the two began to make music together. Olivier composes all the melodies in the fall of each year, drawing his inspiration from the poetry he writes during the summer. He records vocals, exports all his drafts without titles or form to Diamond. Diamond spends the following spring arranging Olivier's melodies, rhythm sequences and vocal treatments – adding his own lines. The result is a finished record. Nothing is sent back to Olivier. The songs are sent from Diamond to be mastered and released.

Cloud Control

The music coming out of Australia right now, in my opinion, is to die for!! Just one example is a band called Cloud Control. Their first full length album on Infections Music came out last week, and it has been on repeat on my iTunes! They are amazing live - they played my SXSW show - and I cant wait for them to come back to the states!!

New Music - War Widow

War Widow is a new LA band that a friend of mine mentioned to me last week. Today I finally got around to listening, and I like what I hear. They are playing tonight at Silver Factory Studios - which I will not be going to because that venue is wack and has bad mojo attached to it...for me personally, but don't let that stop you from going.

War Widow is a band from Los Angeles. They are comprised of members previously of 16 Volt, Mellowdrone, and Deadbirds. Their music is heavy and melodic... and sometimes it molests you... so watch out.

Washed Out - Free Download

Washed Out has a new song up for a free download! First started listening to him a few years back, he is perfect to mellow out with headphones! Very dreamy...easy on the ears! Love Love Love!

Washed Out is Ernest Greene, a young guy from Georgia (via South Carolina) who makes bedroom synthpop that sounds blurred and woozily evocative, like someone smeared Vaseline all over an early OMD demo tape, then stayed up all night trying to recreate what they heard.

R.I.P Ian Curtis

31 years ago on this day - Ian Curtis took his own life! A tragity really....he was only 24 years old! Joy Division inspired a new movement of music, and their influences can still be heard today - in such bands like Interpol and The Twilight Sad. Ian Curtis was an amazing poet, dark and sad....a true artist with a tortured soul....beautiful in all his misery!

There are things that I like to link between the lives of Ian Curtis and myself! We are both Cancers - our birthdays are only a few days apart in July, and I love all Cancers so I know we would have been good friends! Speaking of birthdays - the exact day I was born was the day that Warsaw (what the band was called before they changed their name to Joy Division) cut their first demo!! Hello!! It's like the stars and planets lined up for a cosmic event on that day!

Anyway....one of my all time favorite bands....I wish it could have been different for Mr. Cirtus. May he rest in peace!
