NEW MUSIC: SOMETHING IN SPANISH - FOR SLOWING DOWN

[Your Name Here]Comment

Brooklyn based & Miami raised electronic adventure pop group, Something In Spanish, has released its first single “For Slowing Down,” produced with Andrew Raposo (Midnight Magic, Jessica 6).  Alongside the single, the band has shared the “For Slowing Down” video, a fun, visual re-imagining of the seedy Miami Vice era, as well as a hot remix by famed DJ/Producer Matthew Dear titled “For Slowing Down” (Matthew Dear vs Audion Mix) MP3 which premiered with RCRD LBL.

Something In Spanish is Julio Monterrey (electronics/synthesizers), Michelle Perez (vocals) and with the new addition of David Mason (electronic drums).  Influenced by romantic melodies, Michelle is drawn to emotion and movement; while Julio works within avant sound collages and a horror aesthetic.  With a unique sensibility, their live show is an engaging experience.  Their rare ability to fuse drama and performance sheds light on the group’s individual personalities.

THE BIG PINK - 4AD SESSIONS

I have been a huge fan of this band for years!  The Big Pink are mindblowningly stupid good....it's outrageous!  I got to see them a few weeks back at The Echo with 300 others, and it was awesome!

Ahead of the release of their second album, Future This, The Big Pink have recorded a set of 5 songs as part of the 4AD Sessions series.  Bringing to life the anthemic qualities of the new album, the session is a showcase of the unabashed step towards stadium dynamics the band have made on Future This, while also displaying the often-curveball influences that continue to underpin their best work.

Filmed in 3 Mills Studios, the location was to have a coincidental resonance with the music.  Based on Three Mill Island in Bromley-by-Bow, the island is London's oldest surviving industrial centre with evidence to suggest that the mills it houses were listed in the Domesday Book.  The grand historical associations and JG Ballard-esque setting appears fitting of the darkened, industrial undertones that course through even the most pop moments of The Big Pink's music.  Channeling the epic, immersive and otherworldy feel of the new album, the stark backdrop of the warehouse-like space was coupled with lasers used in a structural way to frame the band and change the physical surroundings.

Playing several tracks from Future This, alongside spiritual cousin 'Velvet', taken from the first album, the session captures what makes The Big Pink such an intriguing band.  Effortlessly moving between the outré sounds of the underground and their love for shameless pop hooks, the band display the full scale of their creative ambitions.

Tracklisting

1. Stay Gold
2. Hit The Ground (Superman)
3. Velvet
4. Rubbernecking
5. Give It Up

The 4AD sessions are a dedicated home for exclusive live sessions from artists on the label, allowing them to also perform new material, alternate versions and back-catalogue covers.

NEW VIDEO: LOVEDRUG - WILD BLOOD (LIVE FOR LOOK SESSION)

I love talking about bands that inspire me - and that's why I love to talk about Lovedrug!  Some bands completely touch you....in all the right ways....and Lovedrug knows right where to lay their music on me!

In 2005 I lived in Prague, Czech Republic for a time, and I had a 8am class on Thursdays.  I would head out the front door in the cold early morning air and make my way through the snow with my head phones pumping Lovedrug's first record Pretend You're Alive.  Every Thursday morning while sitting in the no. 14 tram, emerging down into that amazing city, passing the Prague castle, over the Vltava River, falling in love with the country, and with this this band.

8 years later, here we are, and Lovedrug is still making amazing music.  They released a new album in March called Wise Blood that I listen to at least every other day on my own personal vinyl copy that the band gave me at SXSW!  Michael Shepard's voice is pretty much part of my DNA now, sweet and haunting...

Check out this live video they did of "Wild Blood" for Look Session. They are currently on a US tour....and I know where I will be on May 6th!!
