NEW MUSIC: THE CAST OF CHEERS - TRUCKS AT NIGHT

Erin MaherComment

Over the course of 2012, The Cast of Cheers have emerged as one of the hottest breakthrough bands, with the Dublin quartet winning critical acclaim for their debut LP Family from the likes of Sunday Times Culture, Shortlist and NME, and their rapid ascendancy crowned with a much coveted slot on the NME Generation Next tour through the UK alongside the similarly white hot Howler and Splassh.  And that’s all before they head out on tour with Two Door Cinema Club at the start of next year.

Now, following previous hit singles like “Animals” and “Human Elevator”, the band are releasing another slice of volatile and propulsive rock and roll, in the form of their new single “Trucks at Night”.  Breathless and vicious, combustible and ferocious, “Trucks at Night” teams serrated guitars with a nasty lyrical bent, as vocalist Conor Adams chants “woke up in the western world as a western child and I can’t find God”.  It’s a short, sharp, burst of jagged pop, and a perfect showcase for what makes The Cast of Cheers one of the most vital new bands around.

Chad Valley - Young Hunger.jpg

Me and all of my friends have been waiting for this one!  We love love love love love Chad Valley - his music is like a perfect dream & his live show makes that perfect dream come true!  Chad Valley (aka Hugo Manuel) has a new record - Young Hunger - coming out October 30th that you can stream now!  He played my SXSW show this year, and it was one of the highlights of the weekend - not only is he insanely talented, he is a fuckin really nice guy - and not nice in the fake sort of way - genuine and down to earth.  This new record is amazing, and it features other great artists such as Twin Shadow and Glasser.  "Up & Down" is my jam!  Listen now and pre-order your copy of Young Hunger in iTunes HERE!

REMIX: MONSTA - WHERE DID I GO (DILLON FRANCIS & KILL PARIS REMIX)

Erin MaherComment

Happy Monday!  Not sure about the rest of the world, but I am just waking up and starting my day of social networking and new music listening, and I thought this remix was a good way to say good morning!  Dillon Francis & Kill Paris take the heavy and soulful sounds of Monsta and put their funky luvstep flavor to "Where Did I Go."  This track comes out tomorrow on OWSLA - pick it up on iTunes HERE!

NEW MUSIC: HAIM - DON'T SAVE ME

Erin MaherComment

Even thought I have maybe mentioned a few times that Los Angeles is on a bit of a slope as far as new music and a rad scene, I still have so much love for my hometown bands, and YES - amazing shit still happens in LA.  HAIM has released a new track called "Don't Save Me" - and this Los Angeles based band of sisters are ruling indie pop at the moment.  Music = Great!  Live Shows = Great!  I highly suggest getting into this band immediately.

REMIX: LULS - YOUNG (JEZUS MILLION REMIX)

Erin MaherComment

LULS have been at the top of my list of best brand spanking new bands of the year.  They formed, recorded a few singles, got a really great manager, got on a really great tour, got picked up by a really great booking agency, and are already in label talks.....pretty much all within 6 months.  It helps that not all members are new to this...some of them come from other wildly successful bands, but none of this changes anything to do with how awesome the music is.  So we have two singles and two videos out ..... naturally it is now time for a remix.  Jezus Million puts his spin on LULS first single "Young" and you can also grab it as a free download!

NEW MUSIC: CUB SCOUTS - TOLD YOU SO

Erin MaherComment

Australian band of the week is Cub Scouts!  Again, pop perfection!  Seriously, every one else from the rest of the world is fucked!  There is nothing better than Australian indie pop, someone challenge me on this please, because I am pretty sure I am right!  They come from Brisbane and they claim to be inspired by friends, foes and dogs.  They are getting massive amounts of love on Triple J, and I think some of them might be 12 years old from the looks of it!

Cub Scouts released the Told You So EP on October 11 which you can download HERE - but I think only if you are in Australia - you will have to find other means of obtaining this EP outside downunder!  Hey Cub Scouts, bloody well done!

Over the past three months, the three close friends known as Little Daylight have been taking some of 2012's best songs and molding them into something completely different. Little Daylight has created official remixes for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Temper Trap, St. Lucia, The Freelance Whales, Niki and the Dove, and now Passion Pit - "Constant Conversations"

Download for free from the soundcloud player above!  :-)

Erin MaherComment

EXCITING!  New Local Natives single & record!  SoCal indie rockers just put up "Breakers" so we can get a taste of what is to come!  The new album Hummingbird will be out January 28 via Infectious (UK) & January 29 via Frenchkiss (US)!  "Breakers" will be released digitally on October 23!  Local Natives are close to my heart as part of our Los Angeles music family - not only are they awesome guys, their music is amazing and live shows are even better!  This pretty much made my day!

NEW VIDEO: MATMOS - VERY LARGE GREEN TRIANGLES

Erin MaherComment

I have never been a huge fan of Matmos even though I very much appreciate what they do, it is just a bit too experimental for my taste.  However, I just watched their new video for single "Very Large Green Triangles" and I have to say I am into it!  I love this video!  Created by l.inc Design, psychic cues, 70s progressive rock album covers, and 80's alternate reality science fiction inspired their thinking as they sought to create a beautiful, trippy, fun, energetic and slightly spooky rethinking of the song. The video interprets the psychic session as a full arc from every day details to larger and larger scales of Very Large Green Triangulation.

Matmos released their Ganzfeld EP this week vis Thrill Jockey Records which you can purchase HERE!
