NEW MUSIC: CAROUSEL - ANOTHER DAY

Erin MaherComment

Another one of my SXSW bands who smashed it at the Beautiful Buzzz showcase, Carousel, have a new single they want you to hear.  Indie synth pop at its best, Carousel are a pair of Berklee kids transplanted to New York who are making huge waves - I love them!  Looking forward to having them back on the west coast soon!  Until then, you can see them through the east coast and midwest next month - and you can stream their latest single "Another Day" above!

NEW VIDEO: THE BOXER REBELLION - DIAMONDS

Erin MaherComment

This band has always been special to me, I must have listened to "We Have This Place Surrounded" off their 2005 release Exits one million times!  A few years back I was in Amsterdam and I smoked some really crazy pot, because well.... when in Amsterdam.... and it was pretty much the highest I had ever been - and I put The Boxer Rebellion albums on repeat and went to never never land while watching my best friend Greg do a lyrical dance... it was EPIC!

Personal stories aside, The Boxer Rebellion have a new album coming out and I am totally thrilled!  Their new single "Diamonds" is filled with dreamy layers of fuzzy guitars and soaring vocals totally true to form.  This London based indie rock quartet will release their new album Promises via their own Absentee Recordings label on May 14!  Check out the video for "Diamonds" above!

NEW MUSIC - GHOST BEACH - MODERN TONGUES EP REMIXED

it's been one of those days - the shift buttons on my computer are not working, i was in a meeting this morning at a starbucks with a very important music streaming company and witnessed a woman get attacked with hot coffee and had to call 911, i ate a very hot pepper that was in my tofu sandwitch that really really burned..... love days like this.... totally.  at least when i got to the office and signed on for the day, i was able to hear the sweet sweet sounds of my loves Ghost Beach with their Modern Tongues EP Remixed.

Ghost Beach have been remixed by some of our faves, like Chad Valley and Gigamesh - and you can stream this remix EP above.  They are also hitting the road next month with Chad Valley and that is a show that cannot be missed.  you can also pick up your very own copy of this EP via iTunes HERE.

NEW MUSIC: CAVEMAN - WHERE'S THE TIME

Erin MaherComment

Gotta say, I am super excited for this record!  Caveman are giving us another look into their self titled album due out April 2 via Fat Possum Records!  "Where's The Time" is a very dreamy new-wave folk track that delivers on greatness!  If you are in the bay area, they will be playing The Independent on Tuesday March 26 in San Francisco - I'll be there!

NEW MUSIC: THE OTHER TRIBE - WE SHOULD BE DANCING

Erin MaherComment

Yay!  It's my most favorite live electronic dance band from Bristol, UK-ENGLAND back with another new track!  The Other Tribe have held a special place in my heart for quite some time now.  I always gush over their songs and dream about the day I will finally get to see a live show because I just know it will be bananas!  Band crushes are hard to deal with man.... especially when the band lives in another country.... but some day things will be right in the world and I will be taking pickle back shots with this cheeky group of Brits - I say this because having just returned home from SXSW in Austin where my most favorite thing to do is give British boys & girls in bands pickle back shots.....happens every year!

This new jam "We Should Be Dancing" pretty much says it all!  The Other Tribe kill it - you all need to get in on this!

NEW VIDEO: BIG BLACK DELTA - SIDE OF THE ROAD

Erin MaherComment

Oh..... Big Black Delta - this, pretty much rules my life!!  This new video for "Side Of The Road" is the best thing I have seen all year, and the track is amazing!  I struggle with Big Black Delta - when I love their music I love it more than anything, and when I don't love it... I really really really hate it.  Also, I have seen their live show many times over the past few years, and it's the same situation as above - when it's great it's fucking great, and it has also been so bad I have walked out of the venue.  It's hard for me to go anywhere from there - but then something like this track and video come around and renews my faith in Big Black Delta!  This track is straight Electric Light Orchestra - which by the way is a really really hard this to do!  They smashed it!!  If Big Black Delta continue on this path consistent with awesomeness, I might just become their number on fan.

NEW MUSIC: PROGRAM - WAITING

Erin MaherComment

“I thought I’d hide, from the world today” is the opening lyric of PROGRAM’s -Self Produced album.  It’s also a bit of a mantra.  Which is probably why it’s taken them three years to emerge from their home studio.  But before you hear where they are going, the band wanted you to know from where they came.  Under their previous name - Volcano Playground - they recorded an EP that never felt right, and so it didn’t get the release that it (probably) deserved.  However one song from that EP - WAITING - did make its way to Toronto producer David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene).  He liked it and produced it as a one off single for his new label Stars and Suns.

According to the principal songwriter of the song: “Waiting is a highly personal song.  It’s about perfectionism, self doubt, depression, being a late bloomer.  After our ep, we were strict with what we released.  Sometimes pulling songs off the web that we put up a week before.  We ditched a whole record before arriving at our new one.  I think only now are we becoming comfortable revealing our imperfections (because no song will ever be perfect) to the world, even though we cherish imperfections in others.  The final lines are about being beat up and cut to shreds, and being forever taped back together.  I’ve seen wonderful people get knocked down, and never get back up, and it’s always tragic.”

And in an era of mass consumption and instant gratification, maybe it’s not such a bad thing to hide away in darkness until we are ready for the light of day.
