So I was driving home to LA from San Francisco last weekend, and I decided to listen to some top 40 radio. I so rarely get the chance to do such a thing, seeing as how radio is the most evil of all things within the music industry and I try to aviod it at all costs. Sometimes, however, I want to see how the other side lives - meaning hearing what the majority of America listens to and considers "good music". I am a self proclaimed music snob and totally back that up every chance I get, but on this day I heard "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 put my taste to the test.
I did not know it was Maroon 5 at first - I have never been a fan of that band, and I even saw them live way back in the early 2000's when I was on tour with John Mayer - and I hated them then and I still do to this day. Once the song started, I was thrown off by the lyrics - I mean to claim that you have the "moves like Jagger" is a tall order, Mick Jagger being one of the most iconic figures in the world of music for the past 40 years and all....
But getting into this song, I could not help but to feel its heavy dance groove, and I suddenly find my head bobbing and shoulders popping....and then I was loving it!! When the song was over, I picked up my phone to find out who the artist was, and my jaw dropped when I saw it was Maroon 5. I still dont understand why I like this song so much, but I do - it's a great pop song! So, another guilty pleasure song to add to the list!
