Nate is a young musician living in the bay area who has something to say about Polytype

At the beginning of Polytype’s new single it’s hard to tell whether they are trying to be Nine Inch Nails or Daft Punk, but with further listen it’s very clear these guys know exactly who they are.  "Cyclone" is a beautiful union of where indie music is coming from and where it is going, and as much as it fits in the lineage of great bands of the past, it sounds very much 2013.  It’s easy for bands today to fall into the category of generic indie, but with this single Polytype are saying ‘we’re aware of the trends, but we’re not riding the wave, we’re creating our own wave’.  Mason Porter’s subtle and airy vocal approach, flirts with the Indie Noir trend that bands like The Neighbourhood and Sir Sly are pushing while still maintaining a sound wholly his own.  Jason Gibby’s choppy sampling is evocative of what Trent Reznor is doing with How to Destroy Angels, but less broody.  The whole track is a triumph!  Check out the new video for "Cyclone."
