NVDES - ANYTHING GOES

Music, Original MixAlli LindseyComment

Picture this moment in time: I’m sweating, intoxicated, and digging my own grave in the name of networking exhaustion at SXSW in Austin, Texas. It’s 10 PM at Austin’s historic Scoot Inn, and ThisSongIsSick is showcasing artists by the likes of Louis Futon, and Classixx. All I need is a lighter. I meander my way past the bar and find a stool to set up shop, I dig through my purse for my Turkish Royals, and a lighter. Naturally, I have no luck on the lighter. I glance around to find a seemingly “cool” human to bum fire from. I strike up conversation with a handsome fellow who aptly lends his lighter for my self-righteous use. As we continue our small-talk, I come to find he is a member of the creative collective that is NVDES, playing a show a few blocks away in only a matter of hours. We talked about fears, and creative struggles as I made feeble attempts to blow my smoke in the opposite direction of the masses. That was it. I moved on with my evening, falling victim to the beauty that is my down comforter, and didn’t think much of the aforementioned composers.

It was only days later that I realized exactly who NVDES was. The creative collective, led by Josh Ocean, is one of the grooviest, rising contemporary ensembles in the game. They’ve seen a slew of successes over the last 6 months alone, and their latest single, “Anything Goes” was featured in Spotify’s official “New Music Friday” playlist upon release. A rugrats-esque intro drops into a mid-tempo wave of groove, and chrome-like production. The lyricism is outlined to mimic the rhythm of hip-hop verses- conversational and idiomatic. It’s playful aura is inviting, and saturated with vibrancy. Their consistent, colorful aesthetic directly translates into, “Anything Goes,” as technicolor vibrations cause synesthesia, awakening senses beyond the obvious. Tune in and stayed tuned for more from the peachy outfit that is NVDES.

[PREMIERE] LOVE THY BROTHER - LOVE ME BETTER (LOVE THY BROTHER REMIX)

Music, RemixErin MaherComment

When artists take a second look at their own music and remix a new version, sometimes it can be a disaster - but many times it's a delightful insight into the endless possibilities that artist sees in what they are creating. Canadian duo Love Thy Brother have done just that with our next premiere! I love the original version of their debut single "Love Me Better ft. Ariel Beesley" - in fact, I believed I called it dance pop perfection. With deep 80's new wave dance grooves and synthy beats - Love Thy Brother crushed this remix! It's like the Drive soundtrack mixed with Phil Collins drum fills and Peter Murphy melodies ... yassss! The entire remix package will be out soon via Bright Antenna Records.

[PREMIERE] OLIVER NELSON FT. KALEEM TAYLOR - AIN'T A THING

PREMIERE, Music, Original MixErin Maher1 Comment

It's hard to believe this is our first Oliver Nelson premiere! Over the past few years I've become pretty close with this whole team of legends (artist and management) - we've had some laughs to be sure! The love between Oliver Nelson and myself is pretty special - when we are together it's tons of giggles, hours of talk about music and life, all the things besties do except we only see eachother a few times a year. So this next premiere is another first for me and my Swedish disco angel, and he's coming at us with all the funky dance grooves! "Ain't A Thing ft. Kaleem Taylor" is classic Oliver Nelson, clean and crisp disco house that has an infectious beat and thick soulful vocals - just try not to shake your booty! This one officially drops Sept 16 via Perfect Havoc and you can pre-order from iTunes HERE

YUNG BAE - DON'T SAY YES

Music, Original MixErin MaherComment

Yung Bae / Dallas Cotton - whatever name you want to release music under, we don't care ... just as long as it keeps coming.  Last time I was with this young Portland producer was in San Francisco at the worst Super Bowl pre-party ever. So many of our friends on the bill that night, and it was so poorly promoted - it was like no one ever talked about this event until the doors opened .... for real I think 4 people showed up. I guess that happens ... I just kept thinking how happy I was that it was not my party! I digress -  Yung Bae has handed us another funky disco synth infused dance track "Don't Say Yes" that is delicious - full of deep grooves and bug bass beats. Alexander Lewis provided the synths as well ... all the feels! I'm all about it!

Get yer groove on y'all! It's been a very long Holiday weekend - and I have spent the day drinking plenty of water to hydrate my life ... but I'm still finding the energy to get some jams up on the old blog, and this new one from Set Mo is feeling quite nice riiiight now! I love this dreamy Australian duo, their tracks are always full of that soulful dance vibe that is undeniably awesome. "Comfort You ft. Fractures" is super delicious, Set Mo has given me the warm and fuzzies, and has us dancing once again! You guys can swoop this one from iTunes HERE!
