New Music: Penguin Prison - Don't Fuck With My Money

[Your Name Here]Comment

This is my jam of the week!  Penguin Prison most recent single "Don't Fuck With My Money" is delicious! It's like a mixture of dance pop and 80's WHAM pop - I fuckin love it!

This is what Paper Mag had to say - "Penguin Prison (aka Chris Glover) is a near-perfect project for lovers of innovative pop -- elements of infectious nu-disco, sleek electronica and Scissor Sisters-style spunk help to make PP one of pop's most exciting new players. Plus, Glover can actually sing, giving him an edge that a handful of his blogger-beloved contemporaries can't touch."

Enjoy!

New Video: Ed Sheeran - Lego House

[Your Name Here]Comment

This is way off the kind of music I usually talk about on this blog - but I just could not resist! Ed Sheeran - singer / songwriter from London - has just released his new video for pop ballad "Lego House" - and it stars my most favorite Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley). I have never actually heard of Ed Sheeran, but it seems he is popular amongst the tweens of the UK!

I am posting this video because I think it is really funny. When I hear the lyrics its even funnier....it's almost like it is part of the joke, especially when he is talking about putting a paint by number picture of his love on the wall. I am so glad I am not lyrically based when it comes to music - because look what I would have to deal with!! Really? Give me Battles, Russian Curcles, and Holy Fuck any day over this shwill!!

Red heads are so cute!!

New Music: Deleted Scenes

[Your Name Here]Comment

A buddy of mine just turned me on to this band, and I like them a lot!! Deleted Scenes is a 4 piece indie band from Washington, DC. They have been playing together for a few years, but also have the pleasure of growing up together as friends - which always puts a smile on my face when I hear this about a band - to me it means they are more of a family than a band - drama and all! They just released their new full length album last month called "Young Peoples Church of the Air" - and here is what their facebook says about it.

"Young People’s Church of the Air is fuzzy and warped, inspired by the cassette warble of Southeast Asian psych-pop. Its lyrics are darkly hopeful, exploring family, religion, death and joy. The songs are disparate, but unified, deriving their rhythmic feels from 80s pop, R&B, surf rock, dark funk, and Go-Go. They began as fruity loops-based bedroom jams, which were then introduced into the band environment, taking on a live energy and band identity. The album contains a mixture of studio sounds and home-recorded lo-fi noise."

They have a few free downloads, very nice! Enjoy!

Gotye @ The Satellite w/ Kimbra!! 10/18/11

[Your Name Here]Comment

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing the first Gotye show in the US! Wow! All I can say is that me and about 300 other people knew we were taking part in something very special. I have been waiting for a VERY long time to see Gotye live - his manager called me a "proper fan" - and at this point you could call me a super fan!

Just when I though it could not get any better, I find out that Kimbra has come along to sing on their hit single. "Somebody I Used To Know". I suddendly became 12 years old again, and got that same feeling in my chest that I did when I went to see New Kids On The Block for the first time in 1989!! Apparently she is in the states promoting the US release of her "Settle Down EP"! Doubble wow!!

The show was as expected - AMAZING!! There were a few little technical difficulties - including major feedback when Kimbra sang so you could barily hear her - but I blame their sound guy for fucking that up! I mean, how is it that you have a 2 hour soundcheck and then get the levels wrong?? Should have used the venues sound guy! Ha! What I loved the most was the crowds enthusiasm - it is rare to hear a crowd sing along so loudly in a small club like The Satellite! Sometimes we here on the east side of LA feel above sing-a-longs....but not last night!! and the music...the music....just AMAZING!

Wally De Backer is a sweet and gracious man. I expected him to be much taller, but he is just a little guy who is kind of shy and a little nerdy, but was always smiling and looked you in the eye when he spoke - very genuine, very cool! I am so glad I got to meet him, and I can't wait for him to blow up in America! Well done!!

New Music: 8th Grader

[Your Name Here]Comment

I am telling you - San Francisco is bursting with jams!! It almost feels like my own private paradise because I find all these little gems and get to spend time in the scene - and scene is all I really know living in LA.....and LA is on a quite phase these days!! So I have San Francisco awesomeness - and that's just what 8th Grader is - awesomeness!

8th Grader is Jayson Martinovich, front man from bay area favorites Music For Animals. You can really hear the lighter side of the 80's in this track as he channels the likes of George Michael and Phil Colins, with a modern spin!

It's a jam - and you can download it got free right here, so get your groove on!

I am going through a major dance pop phase - hardcore! Once upon a time I was just a litte hippie girl from the midwest listening to doodle rock and following jam bands around the counrty. I often think - how did I grow to love dance pop so much?? But fuck....I love it man!! More great stuff out of Australia - I have just been turned onto YesYou who come from Brisbane, and are currently working on a LP to come out sometime in the near future!

Love Love Love!

Their single "Half Of It" came out earlier this year and you can get it as a free download below along with a Mitzi Remix!

Remix: Get People - Rain Tears (Peaces Remix)

[Your Name Here]Comment

These guys are getting a bit more notoriety in the US since the last time I blogged about them (New Music: Get People). In the last few months I have seen them pop up here and there - I also see they they are now with The Windish Agency in the US - my most favorite booking agency ever - and for good reason.....Get People are great!

Get People have been described as "eminently danceable electro-tropical acid-pop" which I think is brilliant. They have released a few EPs that are both streaming HERE, and I am looking forward to seeing them live! 100% on my SXSW wish list! Enjoy!
