Many people don't know about New Build, and it's too bad because their almost like a super cool super group - under the radar but cooler than your coolest pair of skinny pants.... that's how cool! They are a band from London featuring Al Doyle (Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem), Felix Martin (Hot Chip) and producer Tom Hopkins. They pretty much kick ass! They will be touring the states this spring, and we have a bay area date on April 28 @ The Independent, with NO CEREMONY/// - I could not ask for a better show unless I booked it myself! Check out New Build's video for new single "False Thing".
WAHT NATE SAYS: DAFT PUNK - GET LUCKY
CommentNate is a young musician living in the bay area who has something to say about Daft Punk!
It felt like Random Access Memories was doomed to fall to the same fate as Chinese Democracy, an album so over anticipated that upon release it inevitably disappoint. But if Daft Punk’s debut single is any indication of what the album holds, Random Access Memories will almost certainly not disappoint. Rather than succumbing to modern EDM trends here we find the duo returning to their roots, 70s funk and disco. They’ve elected not to use any sampling, opting instead to collaborate with studio musicians. The albums credits read like a who’s who of 70s studio musicians and the music sounds like a breath a fresh air in today’s laptop infused EDM culture. On "Get Lucky" Nile Rodgers’ (of Chic) signature syncopated clean guitar tones drive the track and Pharrell Williams (of The Neptunes) tastefully restrained falsetto carries the melody, however at its core the song is very clearly a Daft Punk track. Using an old school Fender P-Bass and choppy vocoder bridge is something no other dance act would dare attempt in 2013, but that’s why no other dance act is as classic as Daft Punk.
REMIX: GHOST BEACH - TOO YOUNG (PENGUIN PRISON REMIX)
CommentThe best cure for a hang over - a little Daft Punk and this Penguin Prison remix of "Too Young" by my most favorite east coast electro-pop angels Ghost Beach!
NEW MUSIC: TEMPERS - STRANGE HARVEST
CommentYesterday NYC's rising electronic duo Tempers, comprised of Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper, quietly debuted their coldwave infused single "Strange Harvest". The digital single, backed with it's acoustic version, drops digitally on 4/24 via Pendu Sound. That same evening the duo is scheduled to celebrate by playing at Brooklyn's 285 Kent alongside ERAAS & Herzog Rising. Ian Cohen of Pitchfork reviewed "Strange Harvest" noting, "The mechanistic aspects of "Strange Harvest" remain constant throughout, an insistent thump that's halfway between Factory and Wax Trax!, while Jasmine Golestaneh's vocals become increasingly distorted and blown-out." I agree!!
NEW VIDEO: DANIEL JAMES - THE STONE AND THE HOLLOW
CommentAfter sharing his debut track "Jackdaw" earlier this year, London based singer songwriter Daniel James returns with new track 'The Stone And The Hollow'. Irish born Daniel says about the track: "It was inspired by memories of walks around Belfast Lough and how that felt different to the new London landscape I found myself in. Time to think and ponder on new and old relationships alike, all compounded by the differing sense of space I felt." Enjoy!
