REMIX: HUNTER HUNTED - KEEP IT TOGETHER (VICEROY REMIX)

Erin MaherComment

Friday morning and the east coast is blowing up my phone!  Most mornings I am cool with this, business has to get done - but once in a while my phone blows up so obnoxiously that throwing it across the room is my only option.  Fuck...I'm up!!  This track seems fitting this morning, because I indeed must "Keep It Together".  Hometown (San Francisco) pal Viceroy has put his spin on LA synth pop band Hunter Hunted and it is delicious!  Viceroy is causing quite a commotion these days, and it's well deserved.  His remixes and originals are loaded with tropical summertime dance vibes that liven up any party.  His sold out Beautiful Buzzz show in San Francisco last month was bananas - more things are in the works so stay tuned!  Enjoy this new track as a free download and remember .... It's Summertime All The Time!

NEW VIDEO: MAT ZO - PYRAMID SCHEME

Erin MaherComment

Mat Zo has made a name for himself as one of the most eclectic artists in modern electronic music - fusing old school and new school into one brilliant sound.  This makes the mix of ancient and modern elements in his new video for "Pyramid Scheme" - the new single off his forthcoming debut artist album "Damage Control" out 11/5 on Astralwerks - that much more fitting.  The track (for which Chuck D of Public Enemy re-recorded his "rock the funky beat" vocal) sees a new video released today by SF-based siblings Morgan and Finley Wise of Raremink.

Shot on location in San Francisco in a fast-paced, single-day shoot, the "Pyramid Scheme" video captures the essence of San Francisco's wonderful Chinatown community.  From the Tai Chi dance, to the old-school practical stunts, to a mixture of traditional camera techniques into a digital workflow, the video is guided by the directors' vision to merge the past with the future.

NEW MUSIC: FORT ROMEAU - TRUST ME

Erin MaherComment

Fort Romeau continues to roll out thoughtfully detailed productions for Ghostly in 2013. In March, the London-based producer released the Chicago house influenced "SW9" single on Ghostly's sub-label Spectral Sound, and showed his versatile house rhythms in July with its follow-up, the Jetée / Desire single.  2014 will see his debut album for Ghostly — it's his second full-length record, with his debut album Kingdoms being released last year on LA outsider dance institution 100% Silk.

In the meantime, Fort Romeau continues to forge masterful house on this four-track EP, entitled Stay / True.  The title track is perhaps the producer's most memorable track yet, a languorous seven-minute slow-burner that moves away from classic house territory in a more experimental direction, cruising along on a leisurely arpeggiated synth figure and a simple but effective kick/clap pattern.  The more classically house-influenced "Your Light" is all tight kicks and vocoder-laden vocals, while the "Together" starts with the sound of field recordings and then drops a heavy 4/4 kick and even heavier bassline.  The 12" version comes with an exclusive track ("Trust Me"), as does the digital version (the dancefloor-focused house belter "And Now").

NEW MUSIC: LOVELIFE - EXHALER

Erin MaherComment

It's been an incredibly difficult week for me personally, lots of drama, lots of work - actually the past 6 weeks have been a bit of a disaster.  My one completely happy moment this week was the 3 hours I spent with Lovelife - my brilliant friends were in town for just a bit, but it was just enough for me to forget about the drama of life.  A live Lovelife show has now become my sanctuary, a place for me to forget about all the bull shit, a place where I fall in love with music again, where I can just let it all go and just feel love.  It's pretty great!  To see their faces light up with joy when seeing me after our last outing a few months back fills my heart - I'm a pretty lucky girl.

Amazing shows and amazing songs - Lovelife can do no wrong ...... again.  Their new Stateless EP  drops October 1 and will include this new track "Exhaler" - which is a fantastically bold and heart breaking track.  Get emotional, it's totally fine!  We all need sad songs in our life.

COVER: DWNTWN - CHOCOLATE (THE 1975 COVER)

Erin MaherComment

I love the DWNTWN kids!  I brought them to San Francisco in April to play the first Beautiful Buzzz show at Neck Of The Woods, and we had one hell of a time.  Wasted!!  Such a great band!  They have released a cover of "Chocolate" by The 1975 - and I'm gonna say it ...... it's better than the original!  DWNTWN managed to add the edge that The 1975 is so desperately missing.  Sorry, I just cant wrap my head around The 1975 - but DWNTWN hits the mark!  Free download!!

NEW MUSIC: StaG - I THINK I'LL SHOUT

Erin MaherComment

I think for the rest of the day I will talk about nothing but bands from LA.  I'm missing my hometown a bit today, and the new bands coming out of that beautiful city within the last 12 months I have been gone are crazy good ..... maybe I left too soon!  Whatever, San Francisco is rad .... and I have a fucking club here, so there LA!!

I digress - another amazing band out of LA for your listening pleasure - StaG!  Combining a love of atmospheric ambient sounds and pulsating high energy pop music, Matt McGuire and Will Walden created the band StaG in hopes to achieve a blend of intensity and lushness.  Sounds good to me!!  They will be at CMJ next month - so check in with them to see where they'll be playing in NY!

NEW MUSIC: PARADE OF LIGHTS - WE'RE THE KIDS

Erin MaherComment

Los Angeles alternative electro rock band Parade Of Lights have signed to Astralwerks Records - this is very exciting news.  When Astralwerks talks, we listen - and the more electro pop rock they pick up, the happier we are!

Parade Of Lights caught the NYC-based label's ear with new single "We're The Kids" - a fist-pumping indie-pop anthem with undeniable appeal.  So undeniable that radio began spinning the track on its merits alone.  It's a rare thing for commercial radio to champion an unsigned artist but Parade Of Lights are the exception to the rule.  Astralwerks moved quickly to sign the band, explode the single, and support the band's forthcoming EP (due later this year).
