Talk about a fresh funky dance jam! It’s been out for a couple weeks now, but I couldn’t let this one go unnoticed. While I hadn’t heard the original “I Can Get” by Danish duo THANKS until being sent this, I’m now a fan of both the original and this hyped up bouncy retro French Electro/House edit from Parisian duo BASTION. This is the kind of jam that I feel would even earn the respect of funk masters like James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, and the Ohio Players. Excuse me while I get down in my kitchen to this right now.

KILL PARIS - RED LIGHTS (FEAT. DOTTER)
Music, Original MixCommentThis is just a straight jam. So glad Kill Paris is back with more music, and I might even wager to say that this is his best single yet. I've been listening to it on repeat. Lowly Palace (the label for this release) has got a good thing going. Dotter's catchy songwriting and sanguine vocals are interesting enough to shine in their own right and not just blend in with the production, as often happens with so many dance music top line vocalists. "F*cking with my head in the red lights baby..." She's just so good.
And the production is of course where the track truly shines. It's just a perfect example top-notch, dynamic, emotion-inducing dance music production: synths that wreak of dance floor euphoria. I could even see this is used in a futuristic sci-fi film or TV soundtrack. I've listened to this track at least 5 times while writing this post, and I still don't want to stop. Spotify should take note and include more tracks like this in New Music Friday instead of giving the spotlight to "artists" like Bhad Babie (read: Cash Me Outside girl).
(LOSS OF A LEGEND) PRINCE - STARE
Music, Original Mix, FEATURECommentWhile posting on twitter for our latest premiere, I saw the internet bursting over this sad news. It was literally two weeks ago at brunch after our Goldroom show at Mezzanine, Erin and I were talking about the phenomenon that is Prince, and the impact he's had on the industry. Admittedly I didn't fully appreciate the entire depth his incredible catalogue, so I've been reaching deeper into his music since then. To have this terrible news happen now is both extra sad and fitting. While I could post any number of his hits, "Kiss," "Purple Rain," "Little Red Corvette," "Let's Go Crazy," "When Doves Cry," "I Wanna Be Your Lover" I could go on and on. However I thought it fitting that because we're a new music blog I should post something from his most recent, final and 39th studio album "HITnRUN Phase Two," which was released just this last December.
"Stare" is a perfect harmony of his unfathomable presence in pop, yet also indicative of his mastery of so many other genres namely Funk, Dance, R&B and Rock. "Stare" is a fun, eclectic and of course sexy record featuring an incredible slap bass line, funky guitar and horns. While "Stare" will undoubtedly be overshadowed by many of the other classic tunes from his legacy, I wanted to support a record that I love and one you most likely will not be hearing too much about in the wake of his death. R.I.P.
FRED FALKE - IT'S A MEMORY (OLIVER REMIX)
Music, RemixCommentAh yess another amazing "It's A Memory" remix! Fred Falke has lined up some killer artists to rework his single featuring slick versions by Amtrac (listen here), Chrome Sparks (here) and now Oliver! Coming off of rich remixes of Jack Ü's "To Ü ft. AlunaGeorge" and BORNS' "Electric Love." Oliver stays hot with a feel good, perfectly 80's take on the original with a groovier lead synth line of the original's melody, and oh soo funky bass. Oliver comes close to out-funking Fred Falke on this one ha ha, but lets be real no one can do that. The whole remix EP is due to drop on February 26th but you can grab that pre-sale here.
JARREAU VANDAL - NOBODY ELSE [FT. BRASSTRACKS & NIYA WELLS] (PAT LOK REMIX)
Music, RemixCommentWhat a great way to start my day! Pat Lok has been absolutely destroying it recently putting out gems with every track. Today he's given us an incredible remix of Jarreau Vandal's single "Nobody Else" featuring the lovely Niya Wells, and our favorite horny duo Brasstracks. True to form, Pat gives us a smokescreen of chill with atmospheric jazzy chords behind Niya's messed with vocals in the beginning leading us towards the chorus. With a breakdown of epicly groovy proportions, he samples in the Brasstracks horns with the vocal chops and synths with ease. This track is so funky and smooth, but I might say the outro is also worth mentioning. Pat lays down an incredible filtered piano line at the end that makes us feel like we're at home in a speakeasy lounge with a martini in hand. Phew so good you can get this track as a free DL here.
Disclosure: Brasstracks is promoted by Beautiful Buzzz writer Lindsey Oh + Alli Lindsey
[PREMIERE] SAINT WKND X MIDWAY - SET IT OUT
Music, Remix, Original MixCommentYess brand spanking new Saint WKND! We've been waiting for a new track from the German youngster and here it is! I had to do a little google search to find out more about Midway, what a find! I love it when DJ's dig up old cuts straight out of 1984 and breathe new life into them. Midway's soulful vocals soar above Saint WKND's grooving disco sounds leading to a driving drop full of funky piano like synths, and of course the amazing tropical steel drums! Primed to take on 2016 it sounds like Saint WKND's got even more up his sleeve with a new EP on the way soon. Love it homie, also proud to see that you've found new joy in making music "not about impressing," but "about expressing." Preach it brotha you can grab this as a free download here!
GRYN - WHAT U WANT (ORIGINAL MIX)
Music, Original MixCommentThe smiley duo in GRYN are back with a record that's forging a new path for one of our favorite SoCal up-and-comers. I remember talking to them recently about working toward a new musical direction and I'm super stoked for the results! It's hard to pinpoint exactly what genre this falls under, but I'm calling it Funky Future Tropical Bass House. I know that seems all encompassing, but hit play and see what I mean. The boys have craftfully blended vocal chops, complex drum patterns, deep funky bass and a tropical oriented soundscape that results in a track that is truly unique and refreshing. Also special late Happy Birthday to Ethan who I know was celebrating over the weekend. Keep it coming boys! Can't wait to hear what's coming up next.
