BEAUTIFUL BUZZZ

GOLDROOM @ POPSCENE - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - APRIL 25

Well.... I am really playing catch-up with this one!  It may have been a few weeks back, but the show is still going strong in my mind - what a party!  It's no secret that I am a mega Goldroom fan!  Ever since that day last summer when I first saw him play live, Goldroom tunes have been a daily staple in my music listening routine.  Not only does he produce some of the sickest remixes anywhere, his original tracks are the sweetest things I ever did hear!

When I heard about Goldroom becoming a live band, I freaked out!  For me it was pretty much the best thing to happen to summer-daytime-disco-electronic-pop music, and counted down the days until SXSW - where Goldroom as a live band headlined our Beautiful Buzzz showcase!  Yea, that happened!!  Unfortunately for me, I was only able to catch one song from this SXSW set because when you are the woman running the show, you don't actually get to partake in the dance party that ensued!  This is why I was over the moon for this San Francisco show!

Bananas!!  The sold out room was on fire, and I was very pleased with the set.  I think Goldroom is 99.9% of the way there - the songs are amazing, Josh Legg is amazing, and the new members of the band rock - it is almost perfection.  I have nothing negative to say about the greatness that is Goldroom - like any newly formed band they need just a wee bit more time to perfect their set, but the vibe and energy is spot on.  I have enjoyed getting to know Josh better over the past year, and the only way I see things going for Goldroom is UP!

LITTLE DAYLIGHT @ POPSCENE - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 05.09.13

Little Daylight made their San Francisco premier last week at the ever so popular club night Popscene at Rickshaw Stop!  Popscene is no stranger to premiering great bands, and Little Daylight now joins this huge and quite impressive list!  They come from Brooklyn, and they are here to have a good time!  Fun, light hearted dance music with an edge... indie dance pop at it's best!

Little Daylight popped up around a year ago - they started doing killer remixes for the likes of Passion Pit, Penguin Prison, St. Lucia, and Temper Trap!  It was their first single "Overdose" that really got me hooked, and I patiently waited for them to announce their first live dates!  They made their live debut this year at SXSW, and I went after securing a slot for them on the Beautiful Buzzz showcase, and could not have been more excited to have Little Daylight part of our little party in Austin.... it was amazing!!  I was unable to see their whole set at our showcase, so this Popscene date was my first true experience, and kids...we did some dancing!

Considering this was only their 11th live show or something like that, I have to say they sound like they have been at it for years.  Creating live dance music as a full band is probably the best thing to happen to modern music, I fucking love it.  Another great part of seeing a band like Little Daylight is that most of their set is a surprise, seeing as how they have only officially released two singles, "Overdose" and "Name In Lights" - the rest of the set is new, and equally as amazing as their "hits"!  They are also some pretty awesome people, which is always a bonus for any band!  Little Daylight will be making big moves this year, keep an eye out and get into it!

URBAN CONE @ POPSCENE - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 01.31.13

It's been a crazy week here in San Francisco with some pretty amazing shows keeping me very busy.  Popscene is my favorite time of the week!  Promoter and Live 105 DJ Aaron Axelsen and I are kindred spirits - week after week he premiers some of the best up & coming indie rock dance pop bands from all over the world that I have either been writing about on Beautiful Buzzz, or that I have been dying to see live!  On this night I was particularly excited to see Urban Cone, electro dance pop band from Stockholm, Sweden!

When I was on tour with Art Vs Science, massive groups of Australian kids would show up, coming out of the woodwork to see their hometown heroes at a small club in the US when they are used to seeing them headlining festivals in Australia.  Somewhat of the same thing happened with Urban Cone, Popscene was packed with all kinds of Swedes!  I didn't even know there were Swedes in San Francisco, but they are everywhere!!  This makes me very happy, over the years I have spent a lot of time in Sweden with some of my most amazing friends who live in a tiny town way up north called Ornskoldsvik!  Such a beautiful country filled with beautiful people, just don't ask me to speak Swedish!

I was right about Urban Cone!  They are amazing live!  Currently their only release is last years Our Youth EP, and I think I have listened to it one million times!  They started their set off with "We Should Go To France" and proceeded to play every track from the Our Youth EP.  Me and every other person in that venue were dancing like crazy people!  "Kings And Queens" was the crowd favorite being the most popular single.  Every song simply exploded with energy, perfect pop songs with a pulsating dance beat.  This is live band electro dance pop at its best.  And their hair!!!  They all have the most amazing hair that a group of young Swedish boys could possibly have!  It boggles my mind how bands this talented get overlooked, and how the masses prefer bands like Grouplove (puke) or Of Monsters And Men (vomit)!  Urban Cone should be headlining Coachella, not the Red Hot Chili Peppers (gag)!

Listen to the Our Youth EP above and have yourself a dance party.  I know 2013 has just begun and I have 100 shows yet to see, but I am pretty sure Urban Cone will be in my top 5 best live show of the year!
