I had been counting down the days for this show. Once in a while I am super super excited to see a band to the point where I feel like I am 10 years old at a New Kids On The Block concert (I did this)! Alt-J played at The Echo last night to a over sold out crowd. I don't think I have seen The Echo that packed for a minute, and of course the band was stoked!
There is just nothing like Alt-J anywhere. I mean it!! Who else makes amazing alt-pop that draws on poignant folk with synth hip-hop syncopations topped off with tight vocal harmonies?? No one, that's who! They come from Leeds, UK and I am pretty sure they are going to take over the US indie music scene in the matter of minutes. The show was so good, I almost got into my car this morning and drove to SF for the Popscene show tonight! I really should have.......
The set was great - when they played popular song "Fitzpleasure" the crowd went nuts and were singing along.....not bad for a band who has nothing released in the US. My personal favorite was "Taro" - man what a great song. I want to thank The Echo for hooking me up with a ticket - I would go solo to a Alt-J show any time, and to Daniel for the drink!
