Young Empires

This is really becoming my favorite time of year, and not because of any holiday! It's time to book my SXSW showcase...and this year is going to be AMAZING!! Here is a band that was handed to me today from Toronto, Canada called Young Empires. I came across this band earlier this year when I was putting together some shows in Canada - I loved them then and I love them now. I'm thinking this will be a "must have" band for SXSW!! Enjoy!

Another fun show tonight in Los Angeles - man I love this city! Boom Bip will be at The Satellite, and I have a feeling this is going to be quite a scene!

Bryan Hollon, aka Boom Bip, is a producer and musician who experiments with many different genres and has developed a sound of his own. His music is mostly instrumental, but over the course of his career he has collaborated with several vocalists.

New Video: CSS - City Grrrl

Fresh off their second US tour of the year, CSS have released the video for “City Grrrl,” the second single off their latest album, La Liberacion. The eye-popping, colorful video shows Lovefoxxx with the pink hair and black lipstick heralded in the song’s chorus, showing her effortless swagger. The track is one of lead singer Lovefoxxx’s most autobiographical songs to date.

Tonight: Vanaprasta @ The Satellite - Los Angeles

Ooohhhhhh....life is good! Tonight is the last night of the Vanaprasta residency at The Satellite in Los Angeles! I have been going on and on and on about this band for about 2 years now! Top 3 favorite band in Los Angeles...for reals!! They take it back to basic rock-n-roll which I love love love! Vanaprasta is the kind of band that reminds me why I fell in love with music, because deep down I am just a rocker - and a sucker for boys with guitars!

They just released their first full length record this month called "Healthy Gemoetry" that echos the dirty sexy 70's rock! Steven Wilkin's vocals are retardedly awesome - and he delivers live! This is a show that cannot be missed!!

Here is my favorite track off the new album, it just mage my greatest First LP / First Track list! See you tonight darlings!

Art Vs Science - ARIA 2011 Winners!!

Tonight, or rather last night in Australia, eather way Nov. 27 - ARIA had their 25th annual awards for recognizing excellence and innovation across all genres of Australian music. Happily - my buddies Art Vs Science took home the award for Best Indie Release for their brilliant album, and one I personally listen to at least once a week - "The Experiment".

Now that this year is winding down and I have some time to relax and reflect, I have to say that the time I spent with these 3 guys was the highlight of my year. I went from taking a chance on a band I did not know by booking them on my SXSW showcase, to being totally inspired and in love with each one of them. From SXSW in March to Ausust tour to October shows, it is safe to say that their charm and ability to have a good time no matter the situation sets a high standard of awesomeness in the great book of my life!

It may be a while before I see my friends again, but I send all the love to them, and cant wait for next time!!

Well done boys!!

Here is a live video of their performance on the ARIA's 2011!

Guilty Pleasure: Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger

[Your Name Here]Comment

So I was driving home to LA from San Francisco last weekend, and I decided to listen to some top 40 radio. I so rarely get the chance to do such a thing, seeing as how radio is the most evil of all things within the music industry and I try to aviod it at all costs. Sometimes, however, I want to see how the other side lives - meaning hearing what the majority of America listens to and considers "good music". I am a self proclaimed music snob and totally back that up every chance I get, but on this day I heard "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 put my taste to the test.

I did not know it was Maroon 5 at first - I have never been a fan of that band, and I even saw them live way back in the early 2000's when I was on tour with John Mayer - and I hated them then and I still do to this day. Once the song started, I was thrown off by the lyrics - I mean to claim that you have the "moves like Jagger" is a tall order, Mick Jagger being one of the most iconic figures in the world of music for the past 40 years and all....

But getting into this song, I could not help but to feel its heavy dance groove, and I suddenly find my head bobbing and shoulders popping....and then I was loving it!! When the song was over, I picked up my phone to find out who the artist was, and my jaw dropped when I saw it was Maroon 5. I still dont understand why I like this song so much, but I do - it's a great pop song! So, another guilty pleasure song to add to the list!
