Capital Cities have released another great single - "Kangaroo Court". What an amazing live show this band puts on! They had a dance party at my SXSW show a few weeks ago, and it was such a pleasure finally meeting and hangin' with this LA based band. They are gonna do great things....really really cool!!
It's time to talk about a new band - a new find for me and hopefully for you!! Death At Sea are from Liverpool, UK - and I have just heard their two tracks currently available - and I have to say this is a band I am going to get excited about. It may not happen next week, but I bet we will be seeing a ton more from this band in the next year or so...I cant wait to see how it all unfolds! You can say you heard it first....you dirty hipster!!
From what I have gathered, they are causing a comotion in thier city by the sea, getting rave reviews from local press and other UK based music blogs! Jolly good!
I really like it a whole bunch....bunches and bunches and bunches!! I'm keeping my eye on you Death At Sea!
There comes a time during the week of madness that is SXSW where you will yell and scream at someone - especially if you are in a band or running a multiple day showcase. For me, I yelled at everyone who was on the SEA NOW! team, 4 days and 4 nights with over 90 bands is no fucking joke!! Yes, I yelled, and then said I was sorry.
White Arrows arrived to my venue @ SXSW on Saturday - it was crazy being Saint Patricks day and all, and this was their last show of like 9 in 4 days - so yes - it was time for them to scream and yell - at each other. I dont blame them, I did not have a green room where they could relax, and it was hard to load their gear onto the front satge, and there was no where to park....SXSW conditions at some venues kind of suck - and although what I had to offer was not perfect - they still got free beer!
Even after the yelling back stage by the mens room, this Los Angeles band took that front stage and owned it! They were just so so good and the crowd loved it! And so many other LA bands were hanging out to support them, Vanaprasta, Voxhaul Broadcast....it was a party and quite a love fest!!
White Arrows have released a new video for their track called "Get Gone" - it's pretty!! They are about to do a few shows with Givers - this is a show you should not miss!!
April 15 - Slim's - San Francisco, CA April 17 - The Celler Door - Visalia, CA
I have loved every single this New York based band Ghost Beach has released!! They are so fun and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!!
I just had to have them play my SXSW show in Austin, so I hunted them down and and we made it work! However, they had some technical difficulties and were only able to play 2 songs - which I was totally not OK with - so I had them come back and play another day and they killed it!
Ghost Beach have just released their new single called "Faded" and I have it on repeat! You can download it for free HERE!!!!!
Thanks Josh and Eric for being so awesome and giving lots of hugs! I am sporting a Ghost Beach sticker on my computer! :-)
Quality - that is what makes me fall in love with a band. I dont care about the hype, who's in Rolling Stone, what Pitchfork has to say, how many friends you have on facebook...none of this matters. That is why my SXSW unofficial showcase has been reviewed as one of the best line-ups SXSW has to offer! Quality - not hype!
Jonquil is one of those bands that is just quality! Their live set at SXSW was one that really left a lasting impression! Hugo Manuel's (aka Chad Valley) vocals are next to none...and the band is awesome....it's just all awesome! Totally fell in love with Jonquil @ SXSW - and they have some US dates to finish up!
I would very much like to sleep - but at the moment I am finding that a challenge! I am thinking about a dream I would like to have - and how ironic is it that Mafia Lights hve just released a video for "Spiriting" that looks and sounds just like the dream I want!!
Skateboarding through the English country side....oh yea!! They are from Surrey...even that sounds like a dream! I see big things for this band...like a dream!!
I can't believe it has been almost a year since I presented The Californian residency at The Satellite here in Los Angeles! I love these boys with all my heart - and what an amazing band with an amazing live show!
Here is their new video for "Man With The Goodnight Gun" - and they will be playing at The Satellite on April 7th - so come on out and buy me a beer!!
I love it when great things happen to great people! Like this for example - I have only just met Future Unlimited in Austin a litte over a week ago, but I have been involved in helping to shape the premier of this amazing new band at SXSW for months and months - and we hit it!!!
NME has just named Future Unlimited as one of the top 10 new bands featured at SXSW - and they did it at my showcase @ The Brew Exchange!! This is just so amazing, and I am so proud and thankful for everyone who worked their ass off to make SXSW 2012 a reality....I could not have done it without you!!
Congratulations Dave & Sam!!! Fuck yea!!
You can hear and download the new EP from Future Unlimited right here....
I wish I could say I have been waiting and waiting for this release, but the truth is I have only recently found out about this awesome London band only 4 months ago. However, I have not been this excited for a band's first full length release for quite some time, and for thier return to the states this May! I have also been talking about them non stop, and then to have had them play my SXSW showcase and have a great time drinking and dancing all night - well now we're friends forever, BFF's, mates, etc!
Breton have stolen my heart and recently my full attention, which I find very interesting - because the music is far from the electro pop rock that I ususally fall for. This stuff is raw and real and has a hard edge and can be a bit intense - but it is so fucking fantastic I just can't get enough!
Breton's new album is called Other People's Problems and it dropped in the UK today! We here in the states have to wait until April 3 to get our hands on it, but you can pre-order now on iTunes and Amazon!
Daniel, Ian, Roman, Adam, and Ryan (& Chris) - A M A Z I N G!! Congrats my little angels, it's all so exciting! Well done!!
