BASECAMP - IN STONE (VALENTINE REMIX)

Music, RemixMike DooseComment

VALENTINE is one of those producers that I feel firmly confident labeling as “forward-thinking” and this remix is evidence enough. A little while back we shared his raw melodic bass take on Kid Froopy’s “bb (four missed texts)” for Moving Castle and his interpretation of OWSLA signee BASECAMP’s “In Stone” is just as refreshing. He’s taken the haunting original in a new direction with a hefty dose of bass, percussion, and assortment of edgy and shiny synths. If you’ve missed this one, you’re really missing out.

ROBOTAKI - RIGHT TIME FEAT. ARI

Music, Original MixEricComment

Montreal's Robotaki is back with a sexy new single “Right Time” featuring the vivacious vocals of Ari released on the always lovely Majestic Casual. This tune initially develops mellow and groovy from the start with a pulsing rhythmic subby whomp that flips and folds around the churning rhythm section. Ari’s vocals sound sweet and relaxed although somewhat biting with the “never is the right time” lyric leading the way above the contemplative piano that chimes in sporadically. Around 1:45 the track unfolds into a massive future bass banger that's equally chilling as it is bombastic. This is his second original release in the last few months, and he's been on tour crushing support for Porter Robinson and Madeon, whichhh by the way LA if you don't have tickets to see their show tonight at the Shrine you're missing out! Robotaki's gonna beast mode the opening set paving the way for San Holo and then the two headliners. You can download/stream the new single on your fave retailer here

Disclosure: Robotaki is promoted by Beautiful Buzzz writer Lindsey Oh + Alli Lindsey

DIFFERENT SLEEP - FIRST TO SAY (FT. VANESSA ELISHA)

Music, Original MixEricComment

I'm just gonna say I love Vanessa Elisha's voice. We've been big supporters of this up-and-coming Aussie and I couldn't stop myself from supporting her new tune with Different Sleep. "First To Say" is a moody tune that slowly builds from ambient sounds and and moving pads into a vibey drop with pumping sub and two step percussion. The track envelopes you with emotional fervor as Vanessa's moving vocals entreat you to bob your head back and forth. This track is juicy and is totally ready for your rainy afternoon. You can stream this tune on Spotify here.

JAHKOY - CALIFORNIA HEAVEN (MEDASIN REMIX) FT. SCHOOLBOY Q

Music, RemixEricComment

Ahh here we go! I posted Jahkoy's killer ode to sunny Californ-I-A back in September (check out the sick original here), and now we're starting to see the remixes appear beginning with this romper of a record from Medasin. He's put his own vibey spin on it with wavey synths, bobbing bells, sound effects and a chill af drop that's beastly to say the least. The arpy synths chirp around the melody with a swag you can't help but bob your head to. Dive into this one nuff said.

VANESSA ELISHA - FRIENDLY SKIES

Cover, MusicMike DooseComment

R&B may not be my favorite type of music, but there's something to be said for the way it can really set a mood, tug at emotions, and get you feeling some kinda way. Vanessa Elisha is not only the homie (we got late night Mexican food once) but she is also one of the hottest artists coming out of Australia right now that isn't a future bass producer or indie pop/dance group. Her brand of Alt/Future R&B can be seen in the form of massive collaborations with a slew of incredible producers from XXYYXX to Ekali. This cover of the legendary Missy Elliott and Ginuwine's "Friendly Skies" is as close to perfection as you can get for a 2016 tribute to this 1997 classic from Missy's debut album Supa Dupa Fly. The complete rework of the production is so fresh, and her signature vocal delivery doesn't just tug at the heartstrings, it melts them. This comes ahead of her long-awaited debut EP, "It's a Day and Night Thing" due in November, which will boast production from Sweater Beats, Different Sleep, XXYXX and others, and is bound to be a breakout piece of work for Vanessa.

MICKEY VALEN - MEET ME (FEAT. NOÉ)

Mike DooseComment

Mickey Valen is a name new to Beautiful Buzzz, but certainly not new to releasing killer original tracks and remixes which top the Hype Machine charts and garner hundred of thousands of plays on Soundcloud. The NYC-based writer/producer has developed a signature style that incorporates elements of R&B, Future Bass, and Trap. For "Meet Me", he's enlisted rising French-born songstress noé to create a sensual Future Pop banger. His forward-thinking production provides the perfect backdrop for the sassy, rich vocals to shine over. I know I'd be hella 'glad to meet' both the producer and the singer. Chalk up another great selection by the label team at Trap Nation!

ZUMA. - HASTE (FT. NSOLO)

Mike DooseComment

Holy. Fucking. Shit. How have I not heard of Zuma. until just now?! Pardon my language, but I can count on one hand how many tracks I've heard this year where the production honestly blew me away. On that hand, you would find Opia, Whethan, AWAY, and now Zuma. (The 5th finger is a serious battle between a ton of other producers).

On "Haste", the young San Diego-based producer crafts a sonic landscape akin to how Lang Lang tickles the ivories — in a way no one else knows how. The virtuosic sound design and audio engineering aptitude are reminiscent of artists such as Tennyson, Shlomo, and mura masa. The mood fluctuates from sensual to anxious to relaxing. Nsolo delivers a solid R&B vocal somewhat reminiscent of Miguel or The Weeknd, tying the track together nicely. But the production is what really steals the show on this one. If he keeps up the pace and delivers us more gems like this one, I wouldn't be shocked to see Zuma. on some major festival lineups next year.
