ASHDOWN - LOOKING BACK

Music, Original MixEricComment

Ashdown has given us another special record in "Looking Back." The record is a buttery fusion of soul and attitude. His narrative song-writing style will attract audiences as it pairs with a deep and mellowed bass. The track is subtle and not overbearing while remaining emotionally impactful. According to the artist, "I think this track maybe has a bit more attitude to it then my other music. This song in general terms is about how not knowing something or forgetting about something can be a good thing. I hope this is something that comes through in the lyrics.” - Ashdown You can swoop this track for free right here.

DOOQU & ASHDOWN - DUST

Music, Original MixEricComment

Monday is a perfect day to blog this amazingly unique and creative record from Dooqu & Ashdown. This is the second collaboration from this twosome - check out our coverage of their first collab "Incompetent Competitions." They obviously found something that worked with the first record, and have followed it up nicely with this one "Dust." I really like this tune because it not only showcases each's prowess at songwriting, but also the teamwork that is built up through the vocals and production. The longing piano and pads combine with a quirky rising arp behind the first verse building us into an eclectic but nonetheless effective chorus. The synth shuffles down with intricate precision as the keenly placed vocals evolve into a terrific vocal chop. The chorus wobbles ahead as a repetitive bell sounds in the background flushing us back down into the second verse. Not exactly your weekend banger, but "Dust" is still sending chills down my spine. DOOQU & ASHDOWN - INCOMPETENT COMPETITIONS

Music, Original MixEricComment

I'm gonna chill things down for a second with a really cool (and cool named) track from Denmark's Dooqu & the UK's Ashdown. "Incompetent Competitions" is an intricate indie electronic record driven by Dooqu's wonderful half full half falsetto vocals. Jazzy piano fill in behind grooving percussion and quick wobbly synths. Smatterings of low bass filter in pumping with harpoon like efficiency. An eclectic lead sound provides some melody that all but wraps up this cool tune. You can nab this as a free download from Heroic Recordings here, and catch the whole 'Moods EP' out May 26th.
