What could be better than one amazing artist? That’s easy... three! Hosted recently released the Room Mates Series #001 and trust us- it will leave you reveling in the collaborative magic. The compilation showcases “HSTD” a minimal tech house track produced by beloved artists Remcord, Mark Höffen, and Juan. The French/ Parisian trio works to keep their focus on the love and music. This track embodies the essence of melodic techno, integrated with beats you can move and groove to.
Having only been added to the Moving Castle Collective in March of this year, French producer/musician Astre has since seen waves of success, support, and synchronicity. His original track, "Shades" featuring rapper Kevin Blu released a mere 4 months ago; after well-received feedback from critics and music fans alike, Astre is passing along the track to various producers, musicians, and DJ's to allow their taste to re-shape and capitalize on the original. This particular remix comes from Pacific Northwest producer, Metsa and LA-based Madnap. The collaborative treatment is a down-tempo, charming piece with Eastern-world aromas that serve to emphasize Kevin Blu's accented rhymes. Intentionally more Lo-Fi than the OG single, this duo's flip yields a vintage expulsion while remaining true to the original notes. Its glitchy interludes are carefully placed and layered, heeding a head-nodding, introspective energy that sticks to each space later coming to fruition in the form of an elctro-R&B vision. This twosome tackled their flip with grace and confidence- a track to be revered and respect. Volume up.
Orbiting each other like a binary star system on a collision course with greatness, Oliver Tree & Whethan continue their path towards world domination with "Enemy". Whethan lays down an ambling backdrop to to Olive Tree's signature cadence that will have you pullin' back that sunroof on a sunny day lovin' life. Both artists are very much on the come up right now; Whethan with a tour coming to a city near you and Oliver Tree redefining the fashion landscape as I type this out. Shoot yourself on over to Whethan & Oliver's Soundcloud for more because you don't want to sleep on these gentlemen.
Okay so Stephen is one of my all-time favorites. The LA-based artist has 100% blown me away with everything he’s done and to see him collaborating with a whole crew of artists from my home town of Chicago is so cool. Hell, I’ve fucked with Saba since way before his collabs with Chance back when my college’s student-run record label released a compilation featuring him on multiple tracks. If you know Chicago music, you know The O’My’s have been killing it around the Windy City for a hot minute, and while I’m unfamiliar with Ravyn Lenae and J.P. Floyd, they both bring something incredible to this collab, Lenae with her silky pipes and Floyd with the badass brass swagger. All in all, while turning a track into a trilogy could be seen by some as a lazy move creatively or that he’s “milking” the hit, I for one am not at all mad that Crossfire has turned into it’s own little movement. The song’s message, supported by the powerful track artwork, also speaks to the violence that’s continually prevalent in Chicago’s South and West Side neighborhoods and the difficulties local children face growing up there that much of us can’t even imagine. I’ve been told 15 percent of all earnings from this record are going to Young Chicago Authors, a creative after school program serving 10,000 youths per year. The only thing better than dope music is dope music with a meaningful message.
