AXEL MANSOOR - BROTHERS

Music, Original MixEricComment

Axel Mansoor is just keeping the momentum going. Fresh off an Emmy (yes you read right) Emmy nom nom nom, and an epic selfie-led music video for 'Talk To Me' that was featured by Buzzfeed, Axel is in no way looking backward. He's grinding and working hard to make beautiful tunes to bring to our earholes, and he's most certainly done it again with 'Brothers'. This folky acoustic and vocal-led single comes as the last song on the newly released Somerset EP named for the street he wrote it on. The song has a heart wrenching story to accompany the heavenly tune. Axel speaking about the song:

"'Brothers' was never supposed to be on this EP. It was an older song I had hung up a while ago, loved but never brought down. In January, I received an email from a grieving mother who had recently lost a son — she explained to me that her other son had found the song and that it had helped their family through the pain. I’ve never cried so hard from an email. I’d never met her son and yet it felt like I had lost him too. I knew I had to make a new version, and I asked her if I could dedicate it to him. Well…"Brothers" is out now, in loving memory of Brody Stewart (December 30, 1991 - January 14, 2018)."

SŸDE - ABOVE THE CLOUDS (FEAT. OLIVIA REID)

Music, Original MixMike DooseComment

Even if you aren’t familiar with SŸDE and their lightly energetic, sweetly melodic, and tribally rhythmic indie-electronic vibes, then there’s still a pretty good chance you’ve heard their massive first single “Orbit” somewhere over the past year. The duo composed of Will and Mitch, two friendly 18-year-olds out of Melbourne, Australia experienced a rare meteoric rise thanks to strong support from Spotify for their undeniable debut hit single in the form of heavy rotation on numerous official playlists. Now faced with the daunting task of following up with a sophomore track, they’ve partnered up with NYC’s Olivia Reid for “Above The Clouds” which showcases a laid back, sing-songy folk-influenced sound. It’s without a doubt SŸDE though, most noticeably in the percussion and guitar work. “Above The Clouds” is a future folk-pop anthem for Generation Z’s increasingly worldly youth. It’s exciting to see these young musicians getting to share their talent with the world, and I can’t wait for more music from them, hopefully soon.

FILOUS - GOODBYE (FT. MAT KEARNEY)

Music, Original MixEricComment

Wow filous (pronounced fih-loo ha ha i def got it wrong for a while) just can do no wrong. This young Austrian (only 19!) has wisdom and skills well beyond his years, and its no wonder the industry has taken such notice. His brand of folky electronic relies on real instruments, and does so in such an smooth way. His latest "Goodbye" is winter-inspired cross-breed of ambient electronic and pop. Mat Kearney's voice gives the tune a singer-songwriter like quality to it that mixes perfectly with filous' often guitar filled instrumental. Out today on Ultra Records you can add this to your favorite winter time Spotify playlist here.
