BEAUTIFUL BUZZZ

BRETON @ BRICK + MORTAR - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 09.19.12

Alright, I am a sucker for sweet British boys in bands who make amazing dance rock music!  They charmed me into going up to San Francisco, like I even had a choice in the matter.  The truth is, my friends could not imagine being on the west coast without me, and for them one night together was simply not enough.  Off to San Francisco I went with Breton, and I am so glad I did......

San Francisco has such a great vibe, and seeing live shows there is actually much more fun because the crowds are much more into it.  We here in LA are too cool to dance like a fool and actually have a super blast - so head bobbing is about all you get......but not in San Francisco.....it's a party!  The crowd at Brick + Mortar was small, but man was the energy high.  Front man Roman Rappak at one point even got down into the crowd and danced along.

Breton is one of my top bands for 2012 - their record Other People's Problems is ace and their live shows are incredible.  The only advice I will leave you is to get into this band now because it's some of the best out there in indie electro-rock to date!

BRETON @ THE ECHO - LOS ANGELES, CA - 09.18.12

How stoked was I last week?  Super stoked!  Breton was back in town for the second time this year!  I have a special bond with these Brits - they played my SXSW showcase this year, and when we met it was love at first sight!  After a fun night of dancing and taking their first pickle back shots, Breton left my venue in the wee hours of the Austin morning knowing we would see each other soon - and two months later I ended up on the road with them on the first US tour.  Now they are back in the states and in Los Angeles to destroy The Echo stage, and that is exactly what happened.

Breton are not your average electro-pop live band - they have this super dark and sexy side that turns dance music into electro-sex....forget the pop!  From start to finish, their set was designed as a build up, rock out and dance like crazy event that had The Echo crowd in an uproar!  Yes, it's true.....I saw fist pumping!  They played crowd favorites such as "Edward The Confessor" and "Jostle" - but the highlight for me was my jam "Governing Correctly" - I LOVE that song!  I don't have any decent video from The Echo show, so check out this one from earlier this year in Amsterdam.

I will miss Breton - they most likely will not be back in the states until sometime next year......but I will be looking forward to their return so we can do it all again!  Love you kittens!

ANIMAL KINGDOM @ POPSCENE - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 08.23.12

Last night was like my favorite combination of things!  1) being in San Francisco where it was very cold, 2) going to Popscene and not having to stand in the ridiculously long line because....well...I don't stand in lines, 3) hanging out with my BFF & soul sister Christine, and 4) seeing a British indie pop band for the first time.  Animal Kingdom had their San Francisco debut at the ever so popular and coveted Popscene night at the Rickshaw Stop - where you can get a redbull & vodka in a pint glass and hit the dance floor to LIVE 105 DJ's Aaron Axelsen & Miles the DJ!  Good times!

Animal Kingdom performing "Tin Man" live at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco California on Thursday August 23, 2012.

I was unable to go to Animal Kingdom's LA show last week so I was very pleased to catch them in SF, and what a great show!  I knew I would be hearing something good - but they totally outdid themselves - I was very impressed.  It seemed everyone there had also seen them at the Outside Lands Festival just a few weeks ago - that is all I kept hearing, "Yea I saw them at Outside Lands and they are now my favorite band!"  This is a good sign.  When I listen to the record I don't get the same feeling as I do when seeing them live.  The live show steps it up a notch, and the synthy indie dance pop overflows into the room.  Don't get me wrong, I love the album as well!

I of course loved hearing the most popular song "Strange Attractor" - the dance floor did too!  Best part of San Francisco shows are the crowds - they have so much more fun than the old drabs in Los Angeles!  I also loved "Get Away With It" - I was in my own little corner of the dance floor having a blast getting lost in this song!  Had a lovely chat with the lads after, waiting until the madness of fans and drunk girls fawning over them subsided - their spirits were high and they are having a blast on their first US tour.  The record is called The Looking Away  is out now via Boombox / Mom & Pop....go on and get one!
