LISTENING & LOVING - THE OTHER TRIBE

It's totally time to dance again!   Live dance bands are where it's at, and The Other Tribe are Bristol, UK's darlings!   Only thing this band is missing from what I can tell is a drummer on a kit - if they had that, I am sure their live show would be out of this world.   Still, it's fun and I would love to see this band live....shit now I am really going to have to get back to the UK....soon!

I was just kindly informed that The Other Tribe indeed have a live drummer, which was pretty much what I was hoping for!  Now that I have all the facts straight you can get the whole picture of awesomeness!  Could you imagine these guys playing with Art Vs Science.....I think my head would explode!!

NEW MUSIC: FIXERS - CRYSTALS

United Kingdom - why do you produce awesome shit??   Really???   Awesome people, awesome style, awesome beer, awesome music.....but the food we'll have to work on that!!   Welcome Fixers - I love you!   You're British and cute and goofy and AWESOME!   I just listened to the upcoming Pop Meat/Your Corruptor EP which will be released on April 24th - and my day just got better by 100 percent!   I am beginning to think I live in the wrong city because Los Angeles NEVER produces the greatness of you...Fixers...not like you...we have other forms of greatness!   I digress!!

3 shows in New York this week but no west coast love - you are going to have to change that Fixers.   I know what you've heard - LA crowds are tough...well it's true but that does not mean we don't love live music and wont love you....I already do!!

Thanks for the free download of "Crystals" and making a cool video - I'll be waiting for you to come to LA!

XYLOS - SUMMERLONG

If you have not heard it yet, you should listen!   Brooklyn based electronic pop band Xylos have a great single out called "Summerlong" - which was just made available on iTunes!   I love electronic pop, and this band is as good as any other!   They are seeling some love with radio and will most likely be the next cool band to talk about even though no one will outside the indie electro pop world will know who they are....but you will!!

NEW MUSIC: BARCELONA - SLIPPING AWAY

Oh this band....swoon!!   Perfect example of how a live show can change an opinion about a band! Before SXSW 2011 I was not a huge fan of Barcelona.   Then through the powers the be, I booked them for my Sea Now! showcase during SXSW, and they were just amazing!!   Ever since then I have been a huge fan!

They have a new record coming out on May 8th - and they will be posting a new song a week up until that date - the first one being "Slipping Away" and I have just listened to it like 10 times in a row.   I love the haunting feeling, and it has a constant groove which I always love because it makes things sexy, I want to get lost in this song!   For some reason I keep thinking Iggy Pop....fucking amazing!!

Barcelona are true DIY - please buy this record on May 8th and suport DIY artists - they are going broke to make you happy!!

NEW MUSIC: A B & THE SEA - CALIFORNIA FEELING

Anyone in the mood for some really fuckin awesome happy music??   I'm in a mood this morning, I feel like being bouncy and happy, and listeing to another song about California, because there are clearly not enough songs about California, but I live here so I understand....

My friends A B & The Sea have just released their new single "California Feeling" produced by Wallpaper. - it's a sunny pop gem that can turn any grey sky bright, I mean I can literally feel the sun on my face when I listen.   Nothing edgy here kids - but that's OK because it's not trying to be, it's simple and fun and people eat this shit up, in a good way.   I love these guys, they have a lot of heart and are as sweet as pie, and are so cute...deliciously cute...I just want to eat them up!!

There is a west coast tour happening, and California summer is right around the corner so it's perfect timing!!

WHAT'S GOIN ON LA??

Another week of great music in this amazing city of angeles that I love so much - however Coachella has made the weekend slow!   Most exciting news of the week was a message from Art Vs Science that they are coming my way in June - making it 8 months since I have last seen my Aussie Angels!   So ready to meet them again and continue the shenanigans!   Coachella artists are still in town making things exciting, and Dick Clark died today!   Record I am currently listening to: Breton - Other People's Problems (and anxiously awaiting their arival to the states in a few weeks).   Get out there and have fun this week, go see live music!

TONIGHT: SPECTOR @ THE SATELLITE - LOS ANGELES

There are so many great shows going on tonight, I can imagine it would be hard for any person to pick with all the Coachella bands in town!   I, however, am going to see Spector at The Satellite!   From the minute I heard their song "Grey Shirt & Tie" I was hooked!   For months and months I have been waiting to see a live show - almost got it at SXSW but then they did not come to Austin - so now I'm getting them at home at my favorite little club in LA!   So excited!!

LISTENING & LOVING: ALPINES

Talk about finding one great artist from another, I have just discovered Alpines from the below remix of Mafia Lights!   I have been listening to them all day, and they get the stamp of approval!   If you read this blog, you already know I am not really into female vocalist, and some of you actually take that kind of personally, which I think is really kind of silly and a bit crazy....I mean I like what I like and if you don't like it then you don't have to read my blog.

However, when I do come across a female vocalist that does not want to make me pull my hair out....I love them!   I love Alpines.   They have some pretty recent music out within the past 6 months, and I have yet to find a track I did not like! Also, me and Catherine Pockson have the same hair....except I have bangs!  Rad!
