THE GET BUZZZED ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: VenessaMichaels

Listen while your reading! Check out her brand new remix Alex Newell - This Aint Over (VenessaMichaels Remix)

Q1. How old were you when you first started making music? When did it become serious?

Music was always a huge part of my life. My Mom  put me in piano lessons at 3 y/o, so I was introduced to playing music at a really young age.  Then when I was around 12 I picked up the guitar and started taking classical guitar lessons.  Soon after, I got my old macbook which had GarageBand on it.  I started chopping things up and making "remixes" and then a friend gifted me Logic.  Then things got more real for me.  I never put music down, it was always a hobby for me.  My Mom encouraged me to try DJing and I fell in love.  In between learning on records and spinning on turntables, I was also messing around with Ableton making beats and discovering my sound. I never stopped, and I never wanted to so it was always serious for me.

Q2. Whether it’s a remix or an original, what is the first step you take when writing a track?

Honestly depends on the day!  Remixes are different than originals, because you have the stems and the a capella written for you.  So you just create around the pieces that are already put down for you.  For originals, it's a different story.  Sometimes I'll start with the chords, sometimes I'll start with a beat, or sometimes I'll literally just start with a hook.  Most of the time, I start with a progression and then write to it with an artist who is going to be featured on the track.  Collaborating is a big part of making music IMO.  I really believe music is a vibe thing, so being able to share that with someone else is really important in creating and bringing a song to life.

Q3. What is one of the best moments you've had so far in your career?

There's been a lot of incredible moments recently, but so far releasing the music has been really special to me. Being able to share it with the world and having different countries spread the music is wild.  The moments when people are actually listening to what you've created is a beautiful thing.  When I get snapchats and videos of fans and friends listening, dancing and smiling...that hits me the most.

Q4. What is another BUZZZworthy artist that inspires you and why?

The people that inspire me the most are my friends and creatives that I'm surrounded by.  One of my favorites is my good friend, Jonah Christian, he is an eye opening producer who makes beats in a crazy way more like J-Dilla styles.  Him and I have actually made a sample pack together where we just hit random things with all kinds of weird objects so the sounds are unique and special.  Here's one of his tunes:

Q5. Of all of your releases, which one is your favorite and why?

I have to go back in time a year and pick through the 2090 EP.  All of these are so close to my heart, because it really brought everything to life.  Working with Kiana and Tay and making these originals was some of the best times.  Out of these...I'm gonna have to say....this is really hard, but it's in between Touch Me ft. Kiana Lede and I Need That ft. Tay Jasper.  It depends on the mood, but if I wanna feel good and free and jam the f*ck out I'm gonna go with Touch Me.

[PREMIERE] KISO - I TOOK A PILL IN IBIZA (FEAT KAYLA DIAMOND)

PREMIERE, Music, Cover, RemixEricComment

Wow it's getting to be that time where we're super swamped in all things SXSW, but I gotta take a quick second to support our homie Kiso with his excellent new cover remix of Mike Posner's "I Took A Pill In Ibiza." This remix features incredible vocals by Kayla Diamond and the usual Kiso guitars that envelope the track with finesse. I've also heard that Kiso has some other tracks with Kayla coming down the pipe so be looking out for that! This is definitely gonna be a staple in a bunch of sets! Music, Original Mix, Remix, Top 5Erin MaherComment

LOW TICKET ALERT
Guys! Our Illenium + Said The Sky show in San Francisco on May 14 is almost sold out! These tickets went so fast! I'd definitely swoop them now before they are gone!

Illenium is pretty much everything right now!  A few weeks back he released his full length album Ashes which is packed full of the most dreamy future feels anyone could ever ask for! He's also announced a big spring tour which is selling like crazy - and we are psyched to be a part of it all! Today Illenium offers up his Top 5 Summer Jams for us to vibe out with!

Ember Island - Need You (Gill Chang Remix)
Ember Island is one of my favorite vocal groups right now.  The vocalist is like a mix of Ellie Goulding and Purity Ring and Gill Chang absolutely crushed this remix.  Love the intricacy and vibe.

Mako - Way Back Home
This has been on repeat for the past 2 months.  Mako is so awesome at creating an intense and organic atmosphere and these vocals and harmonies are absolutely perfect

Mitis - Foundations ft. Adara
Mitis has been a favorite of mine for a while now and this new original stands out to me as one of his best tracks.  The intro and vocal bring me in immediately and the drop is super unique.

Evangeline - My Kingdom (William Black Remix)
Will Black is on the come up and has been putting out super solid remixes recently.  I love the groove on this one and the vocal chop is money.  Some of his unreleased stuff is amazing too. Definitely check him out.

Tommy Trash - Luv U Giv (NGHTMRE Remix)
NGHTMRE is one of the most consistent producers I know and this remix is so sick.  I love the old school vocal vibe mixed with his future bass sounds.  Always love hearing his new tunes.

GET BUZZZED 2016 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: STÉLOUSE

Get Buzzzed Artist Spotli, Music, FEATUREEricComment

Coming at ya! We're now only 7 days away from our Get Buzzzed Austin 2016 Showcase!! If you haven't RSVP'd yet what are you waiting for??

In anticipation for this epic event we want you to get to know a few of our fantastic artists. Without further ado we present another chapter of...

THE GET BUZZZED ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: STELOUSE

Q1. How old were you when you first started making music? When did it become serious?

I started playing guitar in elementary school. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old at the time. I playing in bands in high school but didn't get serious until after graduation. I tried going to college but was like 'nope this sucks' so I dropped out and started a band. I got involved in electronic production about 5 years ago.

Q2. Whether it’s a remix or an original, what is the first step you take when writing a track?

The first step to writing a track is to get inspired and have an idea. Nothing is more counterproductive then sitting there with Ableton open and no inspiration.

Q3. What is one of the best moments you've had so far in your career?

The recent tour with my friend Prince Fox. Being able to go city to city and see and meet all my fans IRL. To see them react in person to the music. Another big moment would have to be when I first saw video of Bassnectar playing my Doja Cat remix at Summer Camp.

Q4. What is another BUZZZworthy artist that inspires you and why?

MYRNE. He's one of my favorite dudes in the game right now and his production skills are next level.

Q5. Of all your releases, which one is your favorite and why?

Right now it's my most recent release with my friend MYRNE, "Call Me". It's just a really fun track that we made very quickly, but it really encompasses everything we've both been doing over the last year. Plus I love working with MYRNE, he's such a homie.

[PREMIERE] CLANS - ALIBI

Music, PREMIEREEric3 Comments

We've got an interesting and totally fun tune for you here from LA based singer and producer Clans! With an excellent vocal rework of Tycho's "Awake," Taylor Swift and Lights under his belt, it's our pleasure to premiere Clans' first original in "Alibi." With a doo-wop feel to it, this track showcases his fantastic vocals while simultaneously expanding our danceable pallet. Perky piano, background vocal dubs, and mellifluous pads surround the lyrics totally putting us at ease. Excited to be in on the beginning of this journey and happy to support his unique vision.

[PREMIERE] N2N X VICTOR OLIVER & VICENTINI - BARBARA

Music, PREMIEREEricComment

Well this is a hell of a way to start my hump day! I've seen some really cool remixes and collaborations come down the pipe from N2N. Following up from hit tropical mixes of Destiny's Child, ABC and Thriller we're treated to another fun tune in this great rework of Duck Sauce's enormous hit "Barbara Streisand." Coming together with Brazilian duo Victor Oliver & Vicentini, the guys have completely redone the original chilling it down to a juicy deep house cut with a rap vox and a vocoded vox towards the end that solidifies this as a total party jam! You can get this set spicer as a free download here

ARDENCY - RACES

Music, Original MixErin MaherComment

Things around the Beautiful Buzzz office are nothing but crazy hectic!  One week out from SXSW is the worst time ever - which is why I do so much night blogging around this time of year - because the middle of the night is the only free time I can find!  I also feel like if I don't talk about some of the tracks that came out today, I never will -- and this one is not one I can't pass up!  We love the Ardency boys! Every track this electro indie house duo produces is bananas good - and super sexy with a slightly dark and edgy sound, or in other words all things delicious! This is the second single from their forthcoming Mechanism EP, and you guys can grab this new Ardency track as a free download HERE for a limited time!

OPIA - FALLING (WHEATHIN REDO)

Music, RemixErin MaherComment

I spend all day on my computer chatting with all the managers, agents, artists and people in this industry making moves and creating the next generation of stars.  It's actually pretty thrilling to be a part of it all, watching all of us youngsters shape the future of music. So when I get a message from one of my favorite manager of artists and label owner with a conversation that goes as follows - it makes my long days in front of a computer all worth it. He mentions two gentlemen who be both work with take care of Chicago producer Wheathin, and sends through this new remix of "Falling" by Opia.  Then he asks me if they have ever hit me up about Wheathin, and I reply that I know about this talented young legend, but that they have never actually hit me up, and he proceeded to call them idiots! Haha! He then tells me Wheathin is the future!  We're all friends so the name calling is totally acceptable, but I kind of think he has a point about this young producer just coming into the world. I kind of feel like he's magical .... but I can let you guys decide on your own! Grab this track as a free download HERE
