Art Vs Science - Remix Wednesday

[Your Name Here]Comment

My darling friends from Australia - Art Vs Science - have been my number one listening choice ever since SXSW, where they made my head explode with joy! As if that wasnt enough - they came to LA a few days later where I joined them for a full set at Bootleg Theater, and realized that the reason I work like a slave in this very unforgiving business of Music is because of bands like Art Vs Science. Three of the sweetest boys you would ever want to meet....and pretty easy on the eyes if I do say so myself....and they will destroy any stage they set foot on! Here are 2 Remixes from Art Vs Science for this Remix Wednesday - as well as the videos for the original songs.

Judgement Days is upon us!!

[Your Name Here]Comment

The first time I saw the Judgement Day billboards was on the way home from SXSW - in the middle of the night - in El Paso....and all I could really think is how southern religious people are delusional!! To my great suprise and delight, the Judgement Day campaign spread across the nation, and now many Los Angeles billboards are displaying the message...even in Spanish!! I am not one who buys into the religious rhetoric, but hell,  Judgement Day sounds like a perfect time to have a party.....and that's happening!

Hometown favorites Saint Motel are teaming up with Holy God and having the end of the world party - which I can't wait to join in the fun! They have invited their friends Vanaprasta and The Hundred Days to play, and this just might be my dream line-up for local bands at a smaller club!

Tonight - Brother (UK) @ The Satellite

Adorable britts in a band = HEAVEN = BROTHER

Rock'n'roll doesn't have to be all about the shock of the new. Arguably, it should be, but it's hardly essential for enjoyment. You'll hate Brother if you believe that rock doesn't count unless it involves new sounds and sensations, but you'll love them if you accept that you can experience something "old" and it can feel like the first time, especially if you've just necked a bunch of pharmaceuticals and a load of beer.

Brother are four boys from Slough who, like Kasabian and the Bluetones before them, are basically displaced Mancunians. Brother? Sounds a bit like Big Brother, Oasis' vanity label, doesn't it? It's probably no coincidence that Brother's music isn't far removed from that of Oasis, and that, if you squint at their promotional photos, you could be looking at the cast of Oasis: The Movie. They call what they do "gritpop", which is corny but neat. It's the rougher, rawer end of Britpop revisited. - Gardian UK

City Sparks - Dead Snares by beautifulbuzzz

In honor of my dear friend Jeff Cain being in town, here is a track from his latest project Dead Snares called City Sparks.

I first began listening to Jeff's music as a teenager - he played guitar in one of my all time favorite bands, Remy Zero . I used to spend hours upon hours listening to Villa Elaine and The Golden Hum blast through my headphones - I mean what ackward teenage music dork girl with an abondance of angst would not love a band who toured with Radiohead on the Bends tour before they even released their first album?? That was Remy Zero!

Dead Snares is just as amazing to me now, and yes, I have even spent hours and hours of headphones time listening to the new Dead Snares album - called Speak The Language. Some things never change! Over the past year I have had the honor and privilige of working with both Remy Zero and Dead Snares, and sometimes I wonder how I have been so lucky.....

Tonight - Airborne Toxic Event @ The Satellite

One of my favorite things about living in LA is the big band playing small club events that happen within this beautiful city! Granted, Airborne Toxic Event are from LA, and it was only a few short years ago that they were having their Spaceland Residency - which was insane!! However, I am excited to see this show tonight and hear their new songs live. They are having a series of small club LA shows (like Foo Fighters did a few months back) for the next 5 nights - which are all sold out. Tonight is the kickoff night at The Satellite with Walking Sleep - who I have not been too impressed with this month at their Satellite Residency. I would say come down and check it out, but the likely hood of getting into this show is slim to none! I am sure there will be youtube video up soon! Cheers!

SEA NOW! SXSW 2011 from Operator Filmowy on Vimeo.

So, I had a little party at SXSW this year! popantipop teamed up with Sea Shepherd Conservation Scoiety (Whale Wars) to throw one hell of a shin-dig and save some whales! It was amazing! The best thing I have ever done to date - really it just could not have gone better! I had the best team ever, there was no drama, only one band missed their time slot but they made it up the next day, and only one manager was an ass to me! Perfection!
