SHAUN FRANK - LET YOU GET AWAY FT. ASHE

Music, Original MixEric2 Comments

What to say about Shaun Frank? The man needs no introduction, but alas this is a music blog and I'm here to scavenger tidbits of information for you. Did you know Shaun co-wrote The Chainsmoker's hit "Closer Ft. Halsey" with Louis the Child's Freddy Kennett? Boom there you go ha ha! Just in case you've lived on mars for the last year and haven't been paying attention, the Toronto bred hit maker steamrolled 2015 and early 2016 with breakouts like the festival circuit staple with Oliver Heldens in "Shades of Grey," the smooth ode to the city of angels in "La La Land" with DVBBS, most recently his collab with the legend Steve Aoki in "Dope Girlz," and now "Let You Get Away."

True to form, Shaun has put together another emotional-meets-banger record fusing excellent songwriting and production in a way that only Shaun can do best. Ashe's brilliance shines through with ease who's becoming quite a staple on our pages (check out the Hypem #1 hit "Recognize" from Win and Woo). As you were being lulled into a trance by Ashe's verses, the drop flies in and sweeps you off your feet with hornlike synths, deep sub and trap like percussion. Flash forward to the end it sounds like we have splashes of actual horns come in after the final buildup just adding to the epicness of this already ginormous hit. Tack another ace into Shaun's musical deck of cards, this cut is gonna get played at a lot of festivals across the world. ZEDS DEAD X NGHTMRE - FRONTLINES (FT. GG MAGREE)

Original Mix, MusicEricComment

Wow lets just talk about NGHTMRE collaborations for a second. Just in the last 10 months the night terror captain has hit the studio with a career capitalizing 6 superstar names, legends in their own right, from the likes of Flosstradamus for "Lighters Up," Dillon Francis for "Need You," and Pegboard Nerds & Krewella for "Superstar." On top of that, just recently he's been surging with MASSIVE collabs with Flux Pavilion in "Feel Your Love," and now Zeds Dead for "Frontlines." "Frontlines" is a rawkus cut that quickly rolls out from the second you hit play exploding into a fun future bass drop. The verses feature a ping pong like synth pluck behind GG Magree's sultry vocals. The vocal chops explode with hype and energy, put into place with microscopic precision that NGHTMRE simply does best. If NGHTMRE continues at this pace I think he'll have worked with every big name in the business. That works for us hey Tyler...please keep 'em coming! You can nab this on all digital retailers here.

HYPERCOLOR - ANIMAL (FEAT. JULIETTA)

Mike DooseComment

Brooklyn production duo Hypercolor dropped their first single a couple months back  a killer tune called "Pretty" that was kind of like what you might imagine it would sound like if Flume featured The Weeknd on a track. Now for their second single, they've enlisted fellow Vitalic Noise family member Julietta as the vocal lioness of this banger. "Animal" is a high-energy anthem of confidence with an array of inspiring sounds from xylophones and marimbas to synth stabs and a smattering of big cat roars throughout. Need a mood lift? This one will get you feeling, as Julietta cries, "unstoppable...like anything's possible." Get it!

JAHKOY - CALIFORNIA HEAVEN (FEAT. SCHOOLBOY Q)

Music, Original MixEricComment

Californ-i-a you are just a sexy beast. You could take a poll of the most heaven-like places in the world and I guarantee California would be top of the list. Maybe I'm a little biased, but my 8 years on the West Coast have been the best of my life. The soul sultan Jahkoy has created his smooth ode to the Golden State and it's a damn near perfect R&B representation of the all of the Cali vibes. The track starts with a beachy reggae guitar riff that quickly makes way for booming sub and those classic hip hop hats and snares. Jahkoy's angelic vocals perfectly fit the heavenly lyricism floating us along into a fantastic verse from Schoolboy Q. I love the nod to LA's weekday party schedule, which is definitely a thing, and the layers of harmonies surrounding Jahkoy's soloing precision. What a cut that's totally keeping the summer Cali vibes alive! Don't ya wanna move to the westside? You can get "California Heaven" on digital retailers here

ZUMA. - HASTE (FT. NSOLO)

Mike DooseComment

Holy. Fucking. Shit. How have I not heard of Zuma. until just now?! Pardon my language, but I can count on one hand how many tracks I've heard this year where the production honestly blew me away. On that hand, you would find Opia, Whethan, AWAY, and now Zuma. (The 5th finger is a serious battle between a ton of other producers).

On "Haste", the young San Diego-based producer crafts a sonic landscape akin to how Lang Lang tickles the ivories — in a way no one else knows how. The virtuosic sound design and audio engineering aptitude are reminiscent of artists such as Tennyson, Shlomo, and mura masa. The mood fluctuates from sensual to anxious to relaxing. Nsolo delivers a solid R&B vocal somewhat reminiscent of Miguel or The Weeknd, tying the track together nicely. But the production is what really steals the show on this one. If he keeps up the pace and delivers us more gems like this one, I wouldn't be shocked to see Zuma. on some major festival lineups next year.

NOMBE VS SONNY ALVEN - CALIFORNIA GIRLS

Mike DooseComment

I've been following NoMBe for a while now, but only just met him in person a few weeks ago. He's a wise man. I can also say that anything he's a part of musically is always something special. He used to produce for other artists before deciding to focus on his own music, and I think we're all glad he did. When "California Girls" first came out last year it cemented his status as an artist to watch. The dark picture he paints of a Californian dream gone wrong certainly won me over.

Now we've got a fresh rework from Sonny Alven. The 22-year-old Norwegian producer has upped the tempo a notch and added a dose of the upbeat, minimalistic, slightly tropical production we've come to expect from Sonny and his Scandinavian contemporaries like Kygo and Seeb. What I like about this rework is depending on your mood when listening, it can either be a happy or sad tune. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out everything else by NoMBe and Sonny Alven!

FOX STEVENSON - ROCKET

Music, Original MixHarrison MorganComment

Fox Stevenson is known for bringing us awesome dubstep hits, and with his new single ‘Rocket’ he absolutely hits it out of the park! This new track features a distorted riff that’ll have you up on your feet before you’ve even realized. After the first drop it’s hard imagine where else he could go, but somehow the second drop is even more hardcore than the first! This banger is the kind of heavy dubstep that you just can’t stop listening to. If you don’t already go and follow Fox Stevenson on Soundcloud, cause he never fails to drop awesome tracks.

LEMAITRE - PLAYING TO LOSE FEAT. STANAJ

Music, Original MixEricComment

Lemaitre is just one of those artists...next level to the extreme! I haven't had the opportunity to see their awesome live set yet, but I've seen the videos and it's very much on my to do list (check out this video). Every single one of their releases is just absolutely mind blowing, check out the smash singles "Closer," their funky collab with our faves The Knocks in "We Got U," and the hard hitting "Stepping Stone," featuring another one of our loves Mark Johns. Musically complex, well produced, soulful, emotional, impactful...I could use soo many more descriptions, but I'll just let the music do the talking. "Playing To Lose" starts quick with Stanaj's superbly soulful vocals leading the way behind layers of luscious synths. The incredibly infectious chorus hits making me bob and weave around my desk right now. Stanaj's performance is absolutely impeccable, the falsetto's, solos and everything just hits with all sorts of feels. The track just continues to climb peak after peak, and by the end you're left absolutely breathless. Take a second and soak this one in my friends. You can purchase on iTunes here and stream on Spotify here
