FREYA BEER - LOVE CHILD

Music, Original MixAlli LindseyComment

Creating her own genre, glam noir songstress Freya Beer just dropped her new single “Love Child.” Surveying femininity in its proximity to tragedy, the composition, from songwriting to instrumentation, is powerful, seductive, and dramatic. Brushed with strokes of grunge grandeur and alt-pop aromas, Freya Beer’s “Love Child” is striking.

Speaking on the track Freya says, “My new single ‘Love Child’ is an important release as it touches upon the subject of ‘gaslighting.’ In comparison to my previous releases, this is not a love song. The lyrics speak from the experience of coming across individuals in life who undermine and try to claim your knowledge and creativity by opposing themselves as the victim in the situation they’ve caused. The subject of the song is something which I haven’t touched upon in my songwriting before but being able to share it on a wider platform and become a story which people can relate to is a way of telling my story.”

A melodramatic delight with an edgy appeal and empowering themes, “Love Child” is worth the replay.

[PREMIERE] CLOVO - GIRLS

Original Mix, PREMIERE, MusicAlli LindseyComment

Gold Coast starlet clovo is Australia’s freshest alt-pop act on the rise. The brainchild of Chloe Magee, clovo stands for radical feminism and liberation. Likened to the pioneering sounds of Grimes and Billie Eilish, clovo draws inspiration from greatness. Although she boasts a familiar sound, clovo is an inimitable force in the pop landscape. Her debut single, aptly-titled “Girls” is a haunting cut dedicated to the unifying force of female empowerment. Combating abusers, “Girls” ruthlessly hexes those who dare disrespect the divine force of womanhood. Her cerebral voice echos through narcotic pop instrumentals to present a message so profound it leaves a lingering taste of rebellion long after its final sweeping crescendo. An unfettered call to action, “girls” is a unifying anthem with sophisticated soundscapes and a revolutionary mantra to boot.

DRESAGE - GALLERY

Music, Original MixMike DooseComment

Bright, artful, cinematic, and colored with musical influences from across a veritable swath of genres and eras, Dresage is an artist who isn’t afraid of exploration and taking bold risks with her compositions. The solo project moniker of singer/songwriter/producer Keeley Bumford—who also makes infectious pop music in the duo More Giraffes—Dresage is the outlet through which she marries her love of vocal stylings from jazz greats with the maturity of dark and moody, left-of-center indie/electronic pop.

“Gallery” is her newest single, and it shines as an upbeat indie pop track, with rhythmic motion reminiscent of artists like HAIM or Betty Who, but with melodies and production that don’t fit so neatly into any specific mold. One listen will give you a peek into the brightly-colored palette that is Bumford’s personal musical gallery, where she has collected all of her personal influences and put them on display, arranging them in such a way that seems familiar, but also entirely new.

DANA AND THE WOLF - GOT ME POLY

Music, Original MixMike DooseComment

“I come from the luck of the draw," Dana Hobson sirens as the introductory hook and anthemic bridge of “Got Me Poly”, the first single of 2018 from peculiar new self-described “raw theater” duo Dana and the Wolf.

In December they gave us the cinematic and dark “Him” which created controversy as “not a Christian rock” song with artwork featuring a cross and lyrics that read as a burning commentary on religion. It charted on several Spotify Viral charts however, deservedly so in this writer’s opinion, with its forward-thinking production and innovative vocal arrangement.

Back at it with a new single to kick off their 2018, Dana and the Wolf have dropped “Got Me Poly”, and I’m cosigning this hard. A song about polyamory, it’s almost like this record was designed to induce anxiety in the listener. There’s even percussion that sounds like a heartbeat in the intro. Add on top lyrics like “turns out that love can’t be conquered and isn’t what you thought / 'forever' just another bubble stuck inside your throat” in a rap-sung mumble from Hobson, other bits of preachy wisdom from Daniel “the Wolf” (if you listen closely) and a chugging bridge that’s somewhere between The Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up” and Major Lazer, and this duo has crafted a piece of music that truly stands out amongst most of even the “alt pop” of today. Keep your eyes on Dana and the Wolf.

FOREIGN AIR - BETTER FOR IT + FOR THE LIGHT EP

EP, Music, Original MixEricComment

Jesse Clasen and Jacob Michael better know as their dropbox project Foreign Air have put together a string of great releases beginning almost a year ago with the fantastic single "Free Animal." Flash forward to now, the duo has released their debut 'For The Light' EP today featuring the other singles "In The Shadows," "Echo," and most recently "Better For It." This single starts simply with piano, but evolves into a well produced indie pop tune with an exotic quality to it. The soundscape is lush and complex while still smooth to the core. This is an excellent book end to a break out year for the guys. SF you can catch Foreign Air at the Fillmore 11/25 and LA you can see them as part of the Red Bull Sound Select series at the Fonda 11/27 and 11/28 with Aurora and Oyster Kids. More details at their Facebook page.

XYLØ - BANG BANG

Music, Original MixEricComment

Yay we've got a new one for you from our favorite brother and sister duo XYLØ! The release of "Bang Bang" also comes with announcements of their debut EP 'America' out February 26 on Sony's Disruptor Records. This EP showcases 6 songs from their incredibly quick rise to prominence, which we can definitely credit to their unbelievable songwriting. "Bang Bang" is distorted, driving pop track that starts and stops giving you a chance to catch your breath. The chorus is incredibly catchy and I can't wait to hear all the remixes that this one brings with it. I can just picture all the producers rubbing their hands together saying yep this is gonna be good. Also you can catch XYLØ at our #GetBuzzzed showcase in Austin March 16-19! RSVP's are now open and available here.
