[PREMIERE] VENESSAMICHAELS & HOLLY - REAL ONE (FEAT. OUTLAW THE ARTIST & EFFY)

Music, Original Mix, PREMIEREAlli LindseyComment

Taking the cadence of modern hip-hop and blending a sensual, feminine prowess into its roots, VenessaMichaels and Holly just teamed up to drop the week's freshest track. "Real One" features Bronx-born experimental MC, Outlaw the Artist and female vocalist, Effy. Combining rhythm and blues with down-tempo, avant-garde production, "Real One" is punctuated by urban influences and unfettered steeze. The girl power is poignant in this piece, as it radiates a coolness only manifested from the creative energies of female collaboration. Outlaw the Artist rounds out the track while he spits buttery bars over the sensually chopped production. "Real One" is an element of its own- chrome, fluid, and atmospheric with a complete sense of identity. Smoky and chic, this is a piece you don't want to miss, catch us bumpin' this all weekend.

VENESSAMICHAELS - REALLY LIKE (FEAT. EFFY)

Music, Original MixEricComment

VenessaMichaels has been putting together a breakout catalogue over the last few months. From first making our Best of 2015 list, to putting out her and MOONZz's incredible "Killing Me Softly" cover, to rocking our SXSW 2016 showcase and NOW this killer new original "Really Like (feat. Effy)." What else can we say? Did I hear the term rising star get thrown around the office when her name was brought up? Well dive into her new single and enjoy. Starting super vibey with piano and Effy's heavenly voice, we're quickly bobbing and weaving around this record with synth stabs, light and jovial fills, energetic vox chops and moving bass. The track stays groovy through the end leaving us puffed up like a big ole bubble of big league chew. Something about the cover art must have inspired that gum analogy. Anyways you can nab this fun single fo FREE right here.

Q1. How old were you when you first started making music? When did it become serious?

Music was always a huge part of my life. My Mom  put me in piano lessons at 3 y/o, so I was introduced to playing music at a really young age.  Then when I was around 12 I picked up the guitar and started taking classical guitar lessons.  Soon after, I got my old macbook which had GarageBand on it.  I started chopping things up and making "remixes" and then a friend gifted me Logic.  Then things got more real for me.  I never put music down, it was always a hobby for me.  My Mom encouraged me to try DJing and I fell in love.  In between learning on records and spinning on turntables, I was also messing around with Ableton making beats and discovering my sound. I never stopped, and I never wanted to so it was always serious for me.

Q2. Whether it’s a remix or an original, what is the first step you take when writing a track?

Honestly depends on the day!  Remixes are different than originals, because you have the stems and the a capella written for you.  So you just create around the pieces that are already put down for you.  For originals, it's a different story.  Sometimes I'll start with the chords, sometimes I'll start with a beat, or sometimes I'll literally just start with a hook.  Most of the time, I start with a progression and then write to it with an artist who is going to be featured on the track.  Collaborating is a big part of making music IMO.  I really believe music is a vibe thing, so being able to share that with someone else is really important in creating and bringing a song to life.

Q3. What is one of the best moments you've had so far in your career?

There's been a lot of incredible moments recently, but so far releasing the music has been really special to me. Being able to share it with the world and having different countries spread the music is wild.  The moments when people are actually listening to what you've created is a beautiful thing.  When I get snapchats and videos of fans and friends listening, dancing and smiling...that hits me the most.

Q4. What is another BUZZZworthy artist that inspires you and why?

The people that inspire me the most are my friends and creatives that I'm surrounded by.  One of my favorites is my good friend, Jonah Christian, he is an eye opening producer who makes beats in a crazy way more like J-Dilla styles.  Him and I have actually made a sample pack together where we just hit random things with all kinds of weird objects so the sounds are unique and special.  Here's one of his tunes:

Q5. Of all of your releases, which one is your favorite and why?

I have to go back in time a year and pick through the 2090 EP.  All of these are so close to my heart, because it really brought everything to life.  Working with Kiana and Tay and making these originals was some of the best times.  Out of these...I'm gonna have to say....this is really hard, but it's in between Touch Me ft. Kiana Lede and I Need That ft. Tay Jasper.  It depends on the mood, but if I wanna feel good and free and jam the f*ck out I'm gonna go with Touch Me.

KILLING ME SOFTLY (VENESSAMICHAELS X MOONZZ REDO)

Music, RemixErin MaherComment

This week we saw a ton of drama with a certain male DJ/Agent looking for young skinny attractive women only who can DJ and not suck. The community exploded in outrage when his follow up stated that this is what clubs are looking for, and he was simply doing his job because if he was interested in finding talented DJ's he would just hire men. I don't want to focus on this obvious douchebag guy that our industry is littered with, but I am so happy that the younger generation of industry men, the ones who are making huge moves and will be running things in the next 10 years, are just as outraged as us women.  It's been incredibly refreshing to have these young male artists and industry mavens (agents, PR, management) speaking up and letting other men know how wrong the sexism is in the industry and thst they do not support these idiotic ideas. Makes me think things are actually changing .... and it feels nice!  That being said - this week two of my most favorite ladies got together and crushed this redo of "Killing Me Softly" by The Fugees and I'm like - fuck ya girls! VenessaMichaels is quickly becoming a rising star for females in the industry and making top-notch future beats tracks that are better than most of everything out there! Teaming up with MOONZz for vocals on this track has got me doing that girl power dance all over the BB office ..... oh ladies you're on fire!!  You can grab this as a free download HERE

THE BEST OF 2015!

Music, Original Mix, RemixErin MaherComment

One thing I have always said is that I am definitely not a music journalist!  Beautiful Buzzz was created as an outlet where I can tell my friends about all the great music I come across - and over the past few years we've grown into a fun place where people can find new tracks and listen to my stories! This Best Of 2015 list is personal; it's a combination of tracks I loved and great moments I had working with the artists over the past year - whether it was through the blog, at one of my Beautiful Buzzz shows, or just a night out on the town!!  Enjoy!!

We had quite a year - click on the pic to check out who made our Best Of 2015 list!
