KSHMR - CREEP (RADIOHEAD COVER)
Music, CoverComment"Creep” is a classic 90’s song from Radiohead that spoke about all the imperfections we have as humans and how we wish we can change them. The mood of the classic song is depressing to say the least, which is why we have to truly admire KSHMR for having the ability to turn this trackinto an upbeat, fun song. KSHMR does a phenomenal job in the musical variety. The beginning of the song starts with a ukulele that makes you think it will keep the island vibe, but then we hear an electric guitar come in pretty strong. Now we are led to believe that it has the ability to be an alternative song. KSHMR dupes us again and brings on some synthesizers with a hip-hop beat to make you dance to “Creep (cover)”. Astounding the abilities KSHMR poses to twist and manipulate such a song to whatever genre it pleases. It is a journey of multiple paths that KSHMR does not allow you to truly hold onto by changing it so often but in the end, we are thankful for such a magnificent, surreal path.
LOST KINGS - PHONE DOWN (JUSTICE SKOLNIK REMIX)
Music, RemixCommentReally - my only goals today are to eat all the mashed potatoes and pie I can ... because Thanksgiving deems it so! But, I know someone in America today is missing cool family things because they won't get off their phone! My brother had a girlfriend that was like this - always on her phone or playing Warcraft during holidays .. she sucked! So .... this song is for all y'all to put the fucking phone down and get into the people you are around, your family, your friends, whoever! Bay area producer Justice Skolnik offers his brilliant future feels spin on "Phone Down" by Lost Kings - it's delicious!
Have you grabbed your tickets for our Lost Kings show on NOV 26 at Ruby Skye? If you are in the bay area this weekend, this is where the dance party is at! With support from Dutch duo The Him, can't go wrong with the dance party vibes! Grab tickets below!
WET PAINT & APRISKAH - MISS YOU
Music, Original MixCommentOMG finally - Thanksgiving break is here! For me, this means I get to work from home or my parents house - because taking a whole day off is pretty much impossible in my world. So, I'm going to be totally catchin' all y'all up with all the new tracks I've been listening to .... starting with this heater from Wet Paint & Apriskah. Not gonna lie .... Canadians feel dat bass in a big way, just another reason to love them. I used to think it was nothin' but super nice white people and tundra like weather in Canada .... oh how American of me! Their new track "Miss You" is huge - I'm getting all the future dub feels and yummy bass with this one! You can swoop a free download HERE!
CRYWOLF - WINDSWEPT
Music, Original MixCommentCrywolf is at it again! Last month, we received the first original single from the LA post-EDM artist in the form of "Quantum Immortality", which we loved! While "Quantum Immortality" was a bit of a departure for him, being a more standardized song structure, "Windswept" brings us back to where we fell in love with his debut LP Cataclasm. He likens the track to his childhood love for Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody":
"Ever since I heard Bohemian Rhapsody as a kid, I’ve loved music that abandons typical verse/chorus structures in favor of movements — like the modern equivalent of a symphony."
"Windswept" follows in this suit, ebbing and flowing instead of hooking and repeating. If these last two masterpieces are any indicator of the quality of his forthcoming EP, we're in for a serious treat.
DRAKE - TOO GOOD (A&G REMIX) [VERONICA COVER]
Cover, Music, RemixCommentSome people may have contrary opinions, but I personally love the trend of vocalist cover remixes of hit tracks. It has the ability to re-energize a sometimes overplayed radio tune and showcase some rising talent. This is just the case here with A&G's remix of Veronica's cover of Drake's "Too Good." This tropical jam may be hitting your ears with snow coming down outside, but regardless it should take you away to a bright and sunny place. Andrew and Gino (aka A&G) are definitely infusing their hometown of Miami into this piano laden bobbing record full of upbeat stabs, fun melodies and a grooving vox chop chorus that's going to sweep you off to that far away beach. Veronica's cover (found here) showcases her sweet take on the original and this remix definitely expands on that foundation. You can stream on Spotify here and download for free here.
MOONZZ - COME AROUND (NIKÖ BLANK REMIX)
Music, RemixCommentMan the fantastic rabbit hole of MOONZz remixes just keeps getting deeper and deeper. I know it seems like we post a lot of MOONZz tunes, but with remixes like Nikö Blank's how could you not! Dive into this juicy and orchestral take on "Come Around." Nikö starts the record with layers of beautiful harps, pads, strings and piano creating a mystical sonic landscape that further enhances the hushed intensity of original's chord progression. In a sweep you off your feet build we're brought into a pumping future bass drop that's as hype as it is relieving. I say relieving merely because by the time we're finally brought up into those jump around chorus highs it feels soo completely right. Nikö did a tremendous job with both the sound design and arrangement of this remix incorporating lots of different synths, vox chops, percussion and even TRUMPETS. This one definitely deserves your attention. You can stream on Spotify here or download this tune for free right here.
COSMOS & CREATURE - YOUNG (WIN AND WOO REMIX)
Music, RemixCommentIf you've been following our little blog here in the last year, then you've definitely heard us post these two amazing artists time and time again. I'm grateful enough to know personally both parties involved in this remix and I'm super happy to see them doing so well. Cosmos & Creature comprised of Brandyn Burnette and Molly Moore have been absolutely hustling, giving us tons of material and crushing it release after release. Their single "Young" has been on repeat since it came out back in September (check out our review here), but now we're starting to see the remixes appear. Win and Woo the Chicago duo comprised of Austin Gahsen and Nick Winholt just recently released their killer new single "Recognize (feat. Ashe)," which is crushing both Soundcloud and Spotify, and have also recently launched their new live show and just finished touring with The Chainsmokers, Autograf, and Timeflies. With so much cool stuff happening in both camps it's only fitting they've come together to release this awesome new dance floor heater. Hit play and you'll instantly get hype to this fun tune full of bobbing stabs, piano, deep bass, vox chops, and an infectious chorus lead melody that's very much stuck in my head. You can stream this tune on Spotify here, and can also download it for free here.
